    Living in Raleigh, NC

    Living in location

Raleigh is the state capital of North Carolina and also one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Raleigh was initially built as a planned city after the American Revolutionary War in the late 18th century, and its downtown area still contains many historic buildings. Nowadays, Raleigh is best-known as part of the Research Triangle area, which also contains Durham and Chapel Hill. The Research Triangle is home to world-class technology companies and research universities like North Carolina State University, which attract renters from all around the world. Raleigh renters enjoy the city's trendy downtown area, which has a variety of fun food and nightlife options.

While Southern food is particularly popular in Raleigh, there are many different cuisines represented here. Renters will also enjoy Raleigh's top-notch cultural institutions, which include the North Carolina Museum of Art and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Additionally, if you enjoy spending time outdoors, you'll love renting in Raleigh, as there are many beautiful lakes and hiking areas on the outskirts of the city. Furthermore, Raleigh boasts a vibrant arts scene with numerous galleries, theaters, and live music venues. Its rich history is evident not just in architecture, but also in the local events and festivals celebrated throughout the year.

    Renting in Raleigh, NC

The Raleigh area has developed at a rapid pace throughout the last few decades, and renters will find many new apartment buildings to choose from. Specifically, there's a mix of modern architecture and traditional colonial architecture, while historic properties complement the new developments. The city is also very green, with lots of trees and open space for renters to enjoy. Meanwhile, in the downtown area, renters will find many mid-rise apartment buildings, as well as some townhomes. Outside of downtown, most neighborhoods consist of single-family homes for rent. These neighborhoods have a traditional suburban feel and are not particularly walkable. Notably, because Raleigh has boomed in recent several years, rental prices have been increasing and are higher than they are in many other cities in the south. Competition for apartments in the area is also quite high.

    Things for renting

    Shopping in Raleigh, NC

There's no shortage of shopping options for renters in Raleigh to enjoy. For instance, there are many independent shops to browse in the downtown Raleigh area, as well as two major indoor malls in the area - the Crabtree Valley Mall and the Triangle Town Center - both of which contain department stores and popular national chains. The Village District is also a popular upscale outdoor shopping center on the west side of town. Renters have many grocery store options to choose from, including Food Lion and Harris Teeter. Or, Wegman's and Trader Joe's offer a more upscale option, and renters can also head to big-box stores, like Costco, Sam's Club and Walmart, which are located around town. The North Carolina State Farmers' Public Market is also located in Raleigh.

    Transportation in Raleigh, NC

Driving is the easiest way for renters to get around Raleigh, as many neighborhoods are not walkable. Accordingly, apartments in the area accommodate this with plenty of parking available. Raleigh is also somewhat bike-friendly, with many bike lanes and trails throughout the city that renters can take advantage of. Alternatively, renters who don't have a car can use GoRaleigh and GoTriangle buses. GoRaleigh buses provide local service, while GoTriangle buses provide regional service to key destinations in the region.
