Leaving only 2 stars due to the business not prorating the rent for moving out mid-month. Giving them more than enough notice on 11/6 moving out 12/15. They ask to be notified when it is swept out to make ready for the next tenant. Fair, only if they credit the tenant that is no longer in the unit. This is poor customer service my opinion. Double dipping when it is not necessary. Do better. ... Read more

This business is ran horrendously, absolutely do not do business with them. 1) Leased me a space that didn’t exist 2) My account was on auto-pay.. they stopped access to my storage due to non-payment… 3) Terminated my lease because they’re building more storage in the spot of my current lease Seriously, avoid the headache and go to one of the other 20 storage businesses in the area. ... I am recommending to anyone looking for a storage unit to consider South Milwaukee Self Storage. This is the second time I am leasing a unit. Michelle and Joann provided assistance with selecting the correct size unit for my needs. It was a seamless process to obtain a unit with immediate access and complete the documents via email. The facility and unit are secure, well lit, easy to access, and clean. Their prices are reasonable, plus I was offered a $25 coupon to use towards my 1st month’s rent. If the location is good for you, consider leasing from So Milwaukee Self Storage. ... Read more

I can’t say enough good things about this storage company. I have used many storage units over the years and this company is by far the best. Nice, friendly staff. Clean unit. Safe and secure facility. Easy to drive around. They are also very upfront about they do not insure my belongings and encouraged me to purchase insurance. I stored at a different company a few years back and had some problems with moisture seeping into my boxes from the concrete floor. They said it was my problem. Had I known about his I would have purchased. Insurance is cheap and well worth it! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at South Milwaukee Self Storage - 1005 Columbia Avenue include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
