They put a rat trap on the wire mesh separating my unit from the ceiling. A rat was trapped dangling INTO my unit, and apparently nobody ever rechecked the trap. The rat decomposed and its bodily fluids got onto my things, along with other biohazardous substances from what I can only assume was his colony. When I discovered a rotted rat corpse hanging by its broken neck over my stuff, I tried to call the facility and stop by their front desk in person. Nobody ever answered the phone or tended the desk. I tried several times. I paid a junk removal service to remove the majority of my now-contaminated belongings and salvaged what little I could. After days of trying to contact them, stopping by, with no response, and attempting to reach someone with their website's poorly programmed "virtual assistant" I called corporate. I wound up having to contact sales to get to an actual person, and they routed me to customer service. Customer service was able to terminate my contract and told me the district manager, Lisa, would contact me by the end of the following day. She didn't. I called corporate again. They told me all they could do was email the district manager again and request she call me. They've now done this three or four times, they say there is nothing else they can do except email the manager, and nobody from the facility has contacted me. ... Read more

As many others have experienced, we found our unit had been affected by the rat infestation! My kids' clothes, baby gear, our furniture! Mostly covered in rat droppings and pee. Several boxes chewed open. The smell when you walk into the building is AWFUL. I'm overwhelmed and disgusted as we now have to figure out how to replace the memories lost and the stuff ruined as the insurance coverage only covers $250 of damage and we've already tossed more than that! Will be reporting this building to the Health department and attorney general as they have KNOWN about their infestation since before we moved our stuff in and all I see are SEVERAL bait boxes inside and out of the storage facility and a manager who couldn't care less that my husband told him there's a rat issue and our stuff was ruined. Don't even get me started on the insane raised rent increases. I'm sure to cover the rodent costs that were here BEFORE US! This is not safe to rent for things that are supposed to store your belongings till you can bring them home! ... Read more

I am unable to use the app to unlock the doors. I have to enter the code at the main entrance and at the elevator. This makes it difficult when moving. I asked the person at the counter, but he was unable to help. He said he would put in a ticket but I have heard nothing back. I have also deleted and re-entered the app three or four times and still doesn’t work. Any suggestions? The person at the counter was as helpful as he could be. I appreciated it very much, very nice kid.. Public Storage customer service got a hold of me a couple days ago and asked me to call them when I went back to my unit so they could help me with the app. When I called them, I got a storage facility in a different town not even customer service They started asking me questions. They said I didn’t have a unit or have an access code which I do. After being on hold for about 15 minutes, they came back and told me they couldn’t help me because I don’t have access to. Yesterday I changed my review from two stars to four stars because of the service I thought I was getting from customer service But after today with the service I received from the Bellevue Wa facility or lack of it I am changing my review to a one, ... As one of the many unlucky individuals who had their storage unit broken into recently I write this review as a warning to those who are looking to rent here or are currently renting.  Last night I received a phone call from an “Unknown” number that left a message saying there was an urgent matter regarding my unit.  When I got a hold of someone at the front desk, I was told that there had been suspicious activity in the building, somebody had broken into my unit, the police had been called, and that I should come down ASAP to check and see what, if anything, was missing. Over the phone, I was given very little information about what had happened.  I did not appreciate how cryptic the staff were treating this issue.  I understand that there is certain information that can’t be disclosed over the phone, but answering simple questions like “When did this occur?” and “How did they get into my unit?” falls into the category of items that should be disclosed to the individual. After arriving to my unit, I saw that it had been ransacked.  Larger items had been thrown around and bags had been cut open. I felt very violated.  I tried to get more out of management while I was there, but unfortunately, I was given limited information.  I learned that the individuals who broke in had strategically pried the door open at the lock, allowing them to open the door to about waist level.  They didn’t have to remove/cut the lock, cut through the grate that covers the top of the unit, or cut through the sides.  I’m not sure if the thieves closed the door behind them to cover their tracks, or how management knew that my unit had been compromised.  That information was not disclosed. I had learned from others that got their unit broken into (not management) that this has happened before and that it is a relatively common issue that has occurred in the last year, which was not disclosed upon me renting the unit.  The building appears secure with a code required to access the front door and access the elevator to only the floor at which you are renting a unit.  However, I have dropped items off late at night and noticed the automatic doors to the front of the building having issues closing.  Management is aware of this issue.  While there are cameras visible around my floor, I haven’t been able to locate them on every corridor, leaving me question if my unit is always monitored or in view of a camera. I walked away not feeling comfortable with my items being stored there, so I left with the items that I could.  I understand that there are always risks with storage units, but if a problem continues to occur something needs to change.  I believe that management needs to be more up front with what they are doing to improve security and prevent these events from happening in the future.  Whether that’s surveillance, better screening and physical verification for new renters to avoid fraudulent renters, upfront communication about when these events occur that disclose the information they can communicate to their tenants. View this as a warning if you are a future or current renter at this location. ... Read more

All of our stuff was destroyed by rodents. They ate through our boxes and droppings and urine destroyed a good chunk of our furniture. That does not even start with the clean up/smell dump loss we will have to take. On top of that we were with them for a year and went from $250 a month to almost $400. Basically was paying for a rodent infestation. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 5806 221st Place SE include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 5806 221st Place SE start from $81 and can go up to $463 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
