After my unit was put into prelien on the 28th of july I went in and made arrangements to pay a certain amount which I did on the 1st went back in on the 9th to start removing items and found rats had damaged alot of items I told the front desk girl and she said the owner would call me about it while I was there I told her would would be back on my sons day off, on the 13th I went there and everything was gone.... when I asked where I could find my belongings I was told "try the dump" I've tried to contact the owner several times and still haven't heard anything. Not so much as a apology nothing I was in contact with them the whole time some of the items discarded are irreplaceable (grandma's jewelry, metal from my grandfather military uniform ect) . ... I was notified about my unit going into prelien on July 28th we made arrangement to pay a certain amount and they would give me till the 14th to get everything out, i went there on the 9th I notified the front desk lady about damaged items due to rats she told me the owner would call me I unturned told her we would be back on the 13th to get the totes and table out due my son having the day off, we went there before noon on the 13th and when the gate code wouldn't work, I was told that they had thrown away my items due to miss understanding by a new employee, I have tried to call and talk to the owner about making this right and still haven't received a call back about my discarded items or the rats. While in the office on the 13th I asked where could I find my items and the front desk lady told me "try looking in the dump" she had also told me they hadn't gone threw my belongings but she did hand me a small peed on makeup bag with a couple pics in it although the pics I had taken on the 9th there was a clean non peed on make up sitting right on top of the totes right when you open the door and the pics she had handed me were actually in a tote. I had metals from my grandfather military uniform in there along with my grandmother's jewelry ect. ... Read more

RATS EVERYWHERE!! DO NOT MOVE IN UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR THINGS DESTROYED AND YOUR BOXES COVERED WITH RODENT DROPPINGS. The owner is FULLY aware there are rats - and they happily let new tenants in without informing them. ... Read more

I had a storage unit here the last 5 years until yesterday. I never had an issue with the unit or the staff until this last summer. Rats were in my unit and destroyed my couch, a bed and other items of value. There was no food or garbage in my unit. The staff clearly knew that they had rats in the unit as they have industrial rodent control all over their grounds. They did not inform tenants that this problem was happening. I mentioned the rats to the staff and was told “only a handful of units had rats in them”. I know personally three other units that have had rats in them, all units are spread out and not located next to each other. I was offered a rushed apology and a unit exchange to a clean one that was sealed off from the rats. I took that exchange. My new unit was super clean and organized and I still ended up with rat droppings and urine on my tub lids. I made the choice to leave this storage unit facility. I received my close out letter today only to see remarks made by management that were not entirely true. Between the rats and the two employed sisters, I am glad to be done with 42nd Storage. You would think being family owned and “ran”, they would care more about how they make their tenants feel and protect their belongings. ... Read more

I just wanted to say how much we appreciated you guys. Back in maybe like 2014-2015 we had moved everything we owned into a storage unit with you guys. We were out of work, waiting on back pay from a job injury. We were months late on our payment, but you guys were so understanding and told us to just keep you informed. For months we worried that everything would be auctioned off but every month we called, more understandment. We finally were able to pay our bill in full, and I remember how grateful we were. I don't know if the same man works there anymore, I believe he was the manager at the time. But I hope you know that all these years later, we are still grateful that you were so understanding. I hope you know how much we appreciated your act of kindness in a time that we so desperately needed one. 100% recommend this storage place. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at 42nd Street Center Mini Storage - 362 42nd Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
