Friendly Staff Can't Make Up for Poor Security and Unfair Policies My experience with Sunset Mini and RV Storage started out very positive but ended in significant financial loss and frustration. When I first rented a spot at the beginning of the summer, the staff, particularly June, was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was clear from the very beginning that I only needed the RV spot for the summer and would be moving my RV off the lot in September. This is where the problems began. I verbally communicated my September departure date on multiple occasions. In fact, when they asked me in late July about moving my RV for a lot reorganization, I reminded them I'd be gone in September. They agreed I wouldn't need to move it since my departure fit their timeline. Despite this clear communication and understanding, I was informed when I called to coordinate my move-out that these conversations didn't count as the required 30-day notice. They claimed there were no notes in my file and insisted on treating this as the 30 day notice, which meant charging me for October. Figuring I was stuck paying for the extra month, I decided to make the best of it and made plans to visit a friend in Hawaii. However, when I went to my RV on the evenening of September 30th to prepare for the trip, I was horrified to discover my RV had been broken into. The locks were drilled out, the door was open, the interior was ransacked, and thousands of dollars worth of property was stolen and damaged. Given that the facility was clearly not a secure place to store my property, I immediately canceled my Hawaii plans and removed my RV the next morning on October 1st. I explained the situation to the staff and asked them to reconsider the October charge. It seems only reasonable that you shouldn't have to pay for an upcoming month of "secure" storage at a location where your property was just burglarized. While June said she would talk to the owner, the owner's response was made clear when an invoice arrived on October 4th. To add insult to injury, they charged me for the full month of October—a month I wasn't even using their facility precisely because my property had been burglarized on their lot. This isn't just poor customer service; it's an unacceptable business practice that shows a complete lack of concern for their clients' property and well-being. A final note for fellow RVers: the vast majority of spaces here are extremely tight and difficult to maneuver, especially for a Class A. Don't let the initial friendly service fool you. While the staff is pleasant, the management's rigid policies, poor communication, and lack of security make this a risky and potentially costly place to store your valuable property. Be warned: your verbal agreements will not be honored, and you should be prepared to pay extra, even if their facility fails to keep your belongings safe. I had hoped they would do the right thing, but was left disappointed and out several thousand dollars. I will not be doing business with them again. ... Read more

Very disappointed. I rented a 10' Uhaul truck at this location for the purposes of moving a couch and mattress, from Tigard to Beaverton. I had completed all of the Uhaul app "check in online" forms, but upon arriving, it was almost as if I hadn't done any of it. My interaction with the front desk agent was well, bizarre. She confirmed my information, and asked me if I had a second phone contact. Keep in mind, this was phrased as an "IF," not a requirement. I said that I don't and she, in an unexpectedly stern manner, said "we NEED another contact." I'm 33 and have several rentals in my Uhaul history, and again, had completed all of the online prompts, so this was strange, and a bit rude. To avoid this, she should have said "Uhaul needs a secondary contact for every rental, who are you willing to use, and what is that person's phone number?" I shrugged this off, and she made some odd remarks about my appearance on my driver's license, first asking if I was in the military, to which I politely said no. She continued on to comment on this further, perpetuating the awkward exchange. I received the truck key, took note that the fuel gauge was at 7/8 full. The gauge itself isn't the most precise, but the arrow was clearly touching the 7/8 mark. Upon starting the truck, I received a "low front right tire" reading. My girlfriend saw the agent we spoke to outside, and went to tell her about this issue. The response was dismissive "we don't maintain the trucks, Uhaul does, why don't you go put air in it?" Now, I understand Uhaul is who would service the trucks, but being a Uhaul affiliate and not having so much as an air compressor? That's ridiculous, and such a requirement is my only criticism of Uhaul itslef. The proper response would have been "let me see if we have a compressor to fill it, or if you go fill it, we'll give you a break on time and mileage." She could have also offered another truck, of which, there were several. This necessitated backtracking to my house, running an extension cord, dragging out the compressor, and filling the low tire. The tire was at 42PSI, with all other tires being 72-76PSI. This added miles and time to the overall task. The Uhaul truck was fine, as always, no further issues. I put just shy of 3 gallons into it, having driven a total of 27 miles. Upon return, this put the fuel gauge needle right back at touching the 7/8 mark, where it had started. I walked into the office to return the key and there was a very strong odor, it smelled like marijuana to me, but seemed a little off from that. I disregarded it and returned the key, saying that I had put fuel back in it. The same agent as before said that she would "check it back in" and "send a receipt." From my understanding, checking a rental vehicle back in should be done with the customer, so as to avoid any future issues related to damage reports, or in this case, fuel use. The next day, I saw my receipt and that I was charged for another 2 gallons of fuel, with the reported fuel level at return being "13/16" (you can't make this up). If she is correct, this would mean that after driving 27 miles with either an empty or very lightweight cargo load, that approximately 5 gallons of gas was burned. Yes, it's a V8 and not very aerodynamic, but it isn't "5mpg aerodynamic." Also, a little over 20 of those miles were at 45-55mph on the highway. Even if I had put an insufficient amount of fuel in (which I didn't, but hypothetically) with the significant inconvenience of having to add time and miles to my trip in order to make up for the vehicle being issued to me in an unsafe condition, such a tiny discrepancy should have been written off as customer service or even compensation for doing the company's job. What a way to be nickel-and-dimed. Lesson learned. ... Read more

This business sold a vehicle in March of 2024. The auctions they have had since that day until today have been invalid........ I purchased the vehicle at speeds auto auction in May Now almost five months later .... Sunset Mini Storage has not complied with the requirements of the state....... They seem unable to file a surety bond or letter of credit with DMV Which they needed six months ago to legally conduct the auction in March Repeated attempts to resolve their negligence are not being addressed as their owner is traveling and the staff /their insurance company are hard pressed to take advice from the dealership in Wilsonville that consigned the vehicle to Speeds auto auction Still trying to get action from Sunset Mini Storage six months after their auction in March........... Concerned about how long their inability to resolve this will persist ... Read more

June was our helper for U-haul, billed us incorrectly and then when we called to get it corrected they (not June) wouldn't help. We (my partner and I) had asked several times to print out the receipt of our contract and she kept forgetting, when I got the keys to the u haul I didn't get any paperwork and had to go back into the office to get her to print the receipt. Ironically, there was an item billed on the receipt and the gas meter was wrong. Our receipt was at 7/8th tank and June specifically said the tank was at 7/8th tank. I am so glad I took a picture before we drove off because when we got billed it was for 15/16th tank. If you look at the photo it's shot at a 45 degree angle (eye level) and isn't even close to 15th/16th. We were charged for extra gas and on our receipt there was also an additional item that we didn't pay for. June also "hustled" us into writing a review on Halloween so that she could promote her friend's cookie company and give us a cookie before we were even serviced. I'm not one to write a negative review but I would be advised to make sure to take a picture of your odometer, make sure the contract is written correctly and that everything meaning the u-haul itself is documented. June was nice as a person but it's not a good feeling being taken advantage of or pushed into anything we aren't comfortable. I am glad I was there for my partner or she probably would have signed up for something that she wouldn't have. ... Read more

Absolutely love June! She was very polite and courteous! She assisted each customer within reason and in a reasonable time! I love her attitude and demeanor towards each customer, as she was calm, cool, collected, and did her job! The bigger U-Haul I went to were rude and didn't take the time to understand my needs, but June actually used her customer service skills and got us in and out all by being professional and actively listening! I'm definitely going back for any of the services she offers and referring friends and family!!! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Sunset Mini Storage - 16501 NW Twin Oaks Drive include the following amenities: Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Enclosed, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
