I had to throw half my stuff away as the place was infested with mice. My things were chewed and full of droppings, I even found a dead mouse in my stuff! They made no effort whatsoever to take precautions in dealing with the issue. The doors are extremely hard to open due to lack of greasing, and the people are unfriendly. Definitely would not recommend it by my experience. I use a new place now and I see how things should be run. ... Read more

So far, we are quite happy with our experience (We moved from a competitor's location where we experienced true filth including rats, bugs, mice, and all manner of debris outside the unit in the GRAVEL lot. Trust me. A gravel lot is NOT a good idea at a storage unit.) Rock Castle has friendly staff who are ON SITE and available for answering questions. Their pricing is MUCH better.... the lowest in the area.... and they even gave us a discount as senior citizens. I believe they also discount to veterans. The lot is not pristine... a good sweep or blower run around the units would help, but it is such an improvement over our previous situations that I really can't complain. ... Read more

They do have the cheapest prices in town, but you get what you pay for. They do have a friendly atmosphere, and the staff couldn't be more nice. I could tell they wanted to be helpful, but they are extremely limited by their resources. The business advertises free use of their moving truck on move-in, but it doesn't run. Management implies the owners do not pay for upkeep of the facility, so their hands are tied, and things can't get repaired in a timely manner. For instance, despite having the ad for use of the moving truck (which was one of the reasons I chose to rent here), the truck has been broken down for 2 years. At least half of their security cameras do not work. Several outdoor security lights do not work or are completely broken out. They have no on-site security. The manager explained she was afraid to walk/inspect the lot due to squatters living in the RVs that are parked on the lot making her fear for her safety. I've never seen more than one employee in the office at any one time, and both being older women. They seem to be very short on help and resources in general. I tried to rent a unit there but the first one had a collapsed ceiling with moldy insulation in several places. I asked if it could be fixed, but they had no one available to do repairs and apparently would not be able to get the owners to hire someone to do repairs. They moved me to another unit. The light bulb didn't work, and I was told I would need to bring my own light bulb because the owners do not provide them. That was fine, and I brought a ladder and a light bulb but then the power did not work. I asked if there was a circuit breaker or fuse out, but the lady in the office said there was nothing she could do to fix it, and didn't know who to call . Both units were very dirty, with cobwebs and spider eggs lining all the walls. I wanted to vacuum before moving my things in, but the aforementioned power situation made that impossible. All the ceilings I saw seemed to be damaged to some degree, which does indicate a potential problem with leaks. Even with insurance, you would still run the risk of having a mess on your hands, especially with wet, moldy insulation coming down on your things. Sadly, I had to opt to go to another facility. It is a shame, because this place was close to my house and as mentioned, very reasonably priced. This location would have been very convenient if I could be confident that my items--not to mention me and my family members--would be safe using their facility. Unfortunately, based on what I heard from the employees themselves, it doesn't seem that the people who invested in this property are at all interested in keeping it working, keeping it secure, or keeping it safe. I would definitely reconsider renting from this facility if the owners invested time and attention into getting the cameras, security lights, and leaky, moldy units repaired and secured (and make a decision as to whether or not they are going to offer that moving truck, instead of using it as a bait and switch on the website). They would also need to take steps to ensure the employees and customers were safe on the property. Until then, since there's only so much insurance can do, even the cheaper prices (not cheap, mind you, but cheaper) don't make renting here worth taking the risk of harm to person or property. ... Friendly family atmosphere. The staff is amazing to work with. It's sad for me to read these poor reviews regarding leaks because when I moved in they expressed the importance of carrying insurance which is very inexpensive and very worth it to protect your items. I would highly suggest this storage unit. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Rock Castle Storage - 2901 South Breiel Blvd include the following amenities: Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Enclosed and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
