Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage at 36 Merrick Road, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I have rented a unit at the Public Storage on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre for FOUR YEARS, paying nearly $400 a month, and my entire unit was destroyed by a severe rat infestation. Let’s keep in mind insurance is a joke to get for this location Your going to be paying more for insurance then they can cover for any damages on your property. When I opened my unit, everything inside was covered in rat feces and urine. Furniture, bedding, clothing, kitchen items, wooden pieces, and even my daughter’s crib were completely contaminated and ruined. There were literally dead rats inside the unit. The smell alone made it unsafe to even step inside. This isn’t minor damage — this is a biohazard. After being told to leave the contaminated items and that they would handle disposal, management is now demanding that I come back, remove everything myself, and pay to haul away rat-infested, unsafe garbage. They are threatening to send me to collections and auction off items that are clearly destroyed and unsanitary. How can you auction items covered in rat waste? That’s dangerous and irresponsible to anyone who might come into contact with it. I paid hundreds of dollars every month to store my belongings safely. Instead, they were destroyed due to their lack of pest control and maintenance. Now they’re trying to charge me and make me responsible for cleaning up their negligence. This facility is disgusting, poorly maintained, and clearly does not protect customers’ property. Save yourself the money, stress, and heartbreak. Do NOT rent here!! ... Read more

Good evening. My grandmother has been a renter for a couple years now and we understand certain policies the company have as in rent raising , pest control etc. However what i can’t understand is the customer service when we call it’s almost never anyone near the phone or in the office. I get that they can be cleaning or around the area but almost constantly…No one is around. The one interaction I did have was with the manager Joesph who is blankly odd and dismissed my issue of wanting to switch spaces due to mice issues but denied me and said that the mice is likely due to me, which is not likely bc my personal items are stored in bins and i do not store anything edible in my belongings (he claims that being the reason) I couldn’t switch spaces so I simply am moving to another storage facility and hopefully in the future this location would be easier to deal with. If anyone is planning on storing here i would recommend using plastic bins and not trash bags seeming they have a serious serious mice issue and terrible smell within the halls and the manager office as well. Overall it’s a decent facility just lacks customer service which wows me considering that they run you down for a 5 star review. But other than the mice problems, push carts always being used and elevator problems I’d say take your chances of annoyance . Thank you. ... Read more

It had been a very hard move, very sudden, very long and very unexpected. Joseph, working at the front desk, helped me immeasurably. He was incredibly human in a moment when we were all exhaustedand stretched thin. I greatly appreciated his customer service and the degree to which he went above and beyond to help me when I really really needed it. ... Read more

I have been to this facility on 5/6 separate occasions and every single time i have tried to get into the office to speak to someone about a refunded lock that i didnt need in the first place and expressed to the front desk explicitly, they hold a finger up as in to tell me to hold and they stay on the phone. My one question to every single person that works at this facility, do you do any actual work or do you just chat on the phone all fay? Also the facility had broken glass on the 4th floor for two weeks straight, I guess maybe the cleaning crew (if you have one staffed) doesnt do their job either. So once again, does anyone do their job? You can check my google profile and see that i have maybe 3 written reviews. I dont go out of my way to write any, but this experience is the worst customer service experience in the history of capitalism. Have an awful year :) ... Read more

I have used this location off an on for many years. Most recently I’ve been dealing with Joseph. He is awesome. Informative, patient, and helpful. He takes his work seriously and is kind and considerate of all the patrons. He is truly a credit to Public Storage. These 4 stars are for him and the ease of using the location. The other members of customer service that I’ve tried on the phone are not as helpful and are the reason I took off one star. Joseph could give lessons or workshops on customer service. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 36 Merrick Road include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 36 Merrick Road start from $79 and can go up to $754 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
