I had to rent a U-haul last week, 3/30. From the start, things were kind of iffy— The requested equipment was not in the truck and the tank was almost empty. Whatever though, no big deal. There were also moving blankets from the previous renter in the truck, which prompted Joyce (office manager) to call me and offer a size up in our truck. However, the size up (26’) would not fit in either the location we were moving from, nor to. In addition, since the office was closed, we had no way of rectifying our missing equipment. Then our truck died about 30 minutes in. We had a hard time getting anyone from roadside assistance to give us an ETA- we sat in the rain for two hours, and the people helping with the move ended up having to leave because their time ran out. This just left me, a disabled individual with somewhat limited mobility, and my parents, who are both older, to move everything heavy ourselves. Again, without our requested equipment. To Joyce’s credit, we were reimbursed for the missing equipment, but not the missing time or poor communication from roadside assistance. When asked to leave a review of my experience, I did so honestly. I mentioned the truck dying, the forgotten equipment, and how long it took for roadside assistance to arrive. I did not plan to leave a negative review of the Gibbs St Self Storage location itself. The following day, I received a phone call from Joyce in which she immediately started berating me, telling me my review reflected poorly on her location, that “nobody else has ever had these issues”, and that I was inaccurate in my review. She went on for about four minutes before hanging up on me, not letting me even speak. If she had, I would’ve apologized for the review reflecting on her location and offered to rewrite it. But, coulda shoulda woulda. Joyce also concluded the call by saying she “hopes I never use her location again”. Well, we are certainly in agreement there. Joyce made the decision to berate a customer with a bad experience, and that speaks VOLUMES about this location and how it is run. She followed up that phone call with an email, attached here. She started off with an apology before immediately returning to berating me. And I‘d like to address a few points of her email in the hopes she reads this. 1.) Joyce, this is incredibly disgusting behavior from a manager. How dare you hang up on someone you called to berate, then continue on to sent this email right after. 2.) You offered me a truck that was too large, and based on the fact that a previous renter had left blankets in the truck. Per our conversation, you’ve “never had a truck battery die” and that it was a unique experience. I’m assuming you didn’t know about the truck battery being bad… So in what way is offering me a new truck prior to us leaving the lot with the 15’ relevant here? And how does that solve the missing equipment and lost time? It doesn’t. 3.) telling a customer their experience and subsequent review was inaccurate is wildly inappropriate behavior. Even if you don’t agree, calling to berate a customer who experienced so many issues with one order is vile. Under no circumstances would I recommend this location. ... Read more

This is a great location for both storage units and Uhaul rentals. Everything is well maintained, the management is good, and they never made any billing or scheduling errors unlike many places do. Easy check in and out, secure access and never too busy. ... Read more

So far, I'm very happy with my choice to go with this storage. The courtesy, and ease of working with office mananager/sales rep certainly played a role in my decision, but good price, secured building leaving only employees and clients with access, climate conditions kept in storage, great location, perhaps the best, for anyone living downtown as it was the closest to downtown Rochester and best quality. I 'very only bèn renting a few months, but I'm happy with my choice having compared it with three other local storage facilities. ... Read more

Absolutely wonderful experiences all around. I’ve rented storage units from them multiple times in the past as a student when I was in between apartments, and they have been great every time! Very personable and helpful staff, clean, well-maintained facilities, and reasonable prices! I’m delighted that they now have a U-Haul rental facility there, as well, which was the best U-Haul experience I’ve ever had! Absolutely recommend!! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Gibbs Street Self Storage - 225 Gibbs Street include the following amenities: Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 20 to 275 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Gibbs Street Self Storage - 225 Gibbs Street start from $77 and can go up to $312 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
