I rarely leave Google reviews, but when someone turns what you expect to be a dreadful errand into a genuinely pleasant experience, it deserves to be shared. Let me paint the picture. For me, anything associated with storage usually involves a negative experience: hauling things from one place to another, storing treasures that may eventually become forgotten relics, and dealing with random price hikes and fees along the way. Add to that the ever-evolving world of AI and the lack of real human interaction, and visiting a storage facility can feel pretty close to going to the DMV. But that was not the case at the Manhattan Mini Storage 1993 location in Inwood. While waiting in line and mentally preparing to explain my situation, I overheard the person ahead of me being helped by someone I later learned was JD. Just listening to him assist that customer lifted my spirits. I remember thinking, “Okay, this is great, I hope this guy helps me.” In a quick twist, another associate came back from what I assume was lunch and called me over. My first thought was, “Damn, I’m about to bother this woman right after lunch.” But Angie was absolutely phenomenal. She was warm, patient, and incredibly helpful in addressing everything I needed. It wasn’t the typical interaction you sometimes associate with companies that just want to take your money. Angie made the experience easy, human, and even enjoyable. I felt compelled to leave this review because both Angie and JD were outstanding. Customer service like that deserves recognition. PS: Before leaving I told Angie and JD that I would write an entire story about my experience with them and they just laughed probably thinking I wouldn’t follow up. We have been customers at MMS, 5030 Broadway, for many years and have been happy with the 24-hour access, cleanliness and personnel. But with new management, the service has deteriorated significantly and the monthly rates have increased frequently. The storage taxi that could be reserved to take customers to their storage unit, or from their storage unit to their home, was suspended. MMS no longer negotiates smaller rate increases for long-term customers. And most recently, if you move out of your storage unit after the 1st of the month, you no longer receive a credit for the pro-rated rental amount. We need to mention the outstanding service of two employees - Martin and Wayne (& in the past, JD), both of whom should be promoted and permitted more discretion in handling clients and their accounts.
