Reggie was great. Was able to help us on a short notice on a urgent matter with the size of our existing unit. Glad he was there to help and was very polite through the process. Highly recommend this place. ... Read more

I’ve been here for a while. Like that it’s clean but today the gate was not working total inconvenience. Also don’t know why my monthly storage bill goes up every couple of months. I’m paying this money hoping it would be a nice rate. Mind you I have 2 storage units and both of them the rate keeps rising. Please fix the gate ASAP. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH GATE ISSUES WHEN I AM PAYING ALL THIS MONEY !! ... Read more

Reggie is an excellent associate who provided excellent service and made moving in very easy. 5 stars for Reggie, wish I could say the same for Public Storage online deceptive pricing. Beware of the advertised "online only" pricing as the rice gets raised significantly after selecting the online pricing icon. I'm not referring to tax or normal to be expected add on charges. The base pricing before tax and fees went from 200.00 to over 300.00. ... Read more

Public storage in Melville was a great asset I utilized during my move from a house to an apartment. It was conveniently located just off the northern state parkway and I had no issues with access to the property. Reggie was great to answer all questions. The site was clean and I never had any issues accessing my unit. ... Read more

I was a Public Storage customer for the years I've seen managers come and go. I've seen this place at its best and maybe one of the times when it was at its worse, however I must say that since the new manager Reggie came along he's been working really hard to try to improve and fix anything that's brought to his attention. He addresses all complaints and tries as best to find a resolution within the scope of his job/position he treats all of the customers at this facility with respect and dignity even the difficult ones that yell and scream at him for following the contracts they signed. I had a front row seat experience on March 31st when I was checking out. I watch this woman get irate with him because she wanted him to not charge her next month's rent on the following day and allow her to hold the unit for 72 hours until her cheaper unit that she reserved becomes available so she can move her things into it. He tried to explain to this woman that it could not be done and that he had to follow policy and procedures according to the contract. He did however he give her an alternate solution to her problem via transfer to another unit but she did not want to hear it. She became irate and disrespectful and he remained calm and treated her with the utmost respect offering her his assistance when she decides what she wants to do and told her that he will help her in any way within the scope of his job and her contract. He always made sure facility was clean you might not be able to find him in the office when you come in but you can be sure you will find him somewhere inside the facility pushing that cleaning cart or sweeping the hallways or cleaning the bathrooms. If not there he is helping a customer. It was a pleasure to know him and I hope Public Storage sees his value. ... Read more

Truly the worst. If I could give them less than one star I would. The facility is a dirty and smelly mess where the ‘security’ gates are often broken - either always open, or will not open at all. Also, without name checking anyone, the manager is in clear need of training in regard to how to use their internal computer system, as he seems to have a tendency of merging multiple accounts for unrelated people, and exposing personal information like phone numbers, email addresses, and more. This happened twice to both myself and a family member over the course of several months. Imagine typing in your code to enter the facility and being welcomed with someone else’s name. Imagine having full access to someone else’s account information. Imagine randomly getting a call from said manager asking if you’ve closed your account and vacated your locker. No need to imagine these things when renting a storage locker here. And, when confronted on said nonsense, the manager’s response - ‘Reinstall the app’. Ahh, got it. Because that’s how apps work. Also, great way to not be accountable for your own incompetence, so blame the app. That’s not how it works my dude. For a long time, this location was fine for what it was. But, it has taken a major turn for the worst in recent months. That said, do yourself a favor and skip this location or this company altogether. There are plenty of other choices locally with more caring and competent staff, and cleaner and better maintained facilities. ... Read more

Reggie is the best Property Manager public storage has to offer. My mother has been using this service for years and when it comes to moving and securing our belongings he’s great. He works good monthly pricing to help your situation. You can’t give this at any location if your in Long Island Melville is the best. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 965 Walt Whitman Road include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 965 Walt Whitman Road start from $67 and can go up to $733 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
