I rented a unit here Feb 2023 - Feb 2025 and in that fairly short period of time they more than doubled the price of the unit through steady price hikes every few months. It seems that might be practice of Public Storage in general, because I have since started renting from another Public Storage in another city and they do the same (as compared to a Columbia Self Storage I rented west of NYC for years before Public Storage - only experienced one minor increase ever with them throughout many years, so it seems some companies are more predatory than others). The parking at this place is not great as there are basically just two covered spots. it happened to me a few times that someone parked in front of me on the dock, blocking me in and I just had to wait until the person came back, which is not ideal if you're in a hurry. The other thing is the temperature at the storage. At move-in, I was told that a specific temperature range was observed, which was a key factor why I choose this place because I had temperature-sensitive items. But throughout the years, I noticed that they rarely held to that standard during winter or summer. When I asked about it to the staff, they acknowledged it but said that the management controlled that. So if you have temperature-sensitive items, be aware. I'd give the place one star, but the saving grace was Samantha who was just the nicest and such an asset to this place! She is friendly, helpful, and remembers & recognizes you (which is really impressive considering all of the people renting a unit here!). She deserves a raise and I hope management realizes what a gem she is! UPDATE: Removing one star as I recently found out that Public Storage is a huge donor to Trump. And it's not like many companies that maybe donate 50-50 Republican/Democrats just to make sure their interests are represented - Public Storage is basically exclusively donating large sums to Agent Orange. So, will store my stuff with other storage companies from now on. One star is still for Samantha - she is indeed a star ... Read more

I recently came to this location for quick look to get an overview of the storage prices and how it works bc I’m new to buying storage space haha. The workers there helped me a lot for advice on how it works to buy a storage. The customer service is wonderful here!! I wanted a reasonable price, Joey was able to help me understand the payments and break it down for me. I appreciate the help from the other workers (Sam and Kaylyn) too!! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 4920 Van Dam Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Keyless Unit Access, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 190 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 4920 Van Dam Street start from $58 and can go up to $561 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
