Read some helpful reviews of Prime Storage (NY48) at 1653 Central Avenue, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I had a good experience overall with Prime Storage at the 1653 Central Ave location. The manager Jamel was always prompt with responses and very helpful whenever I needed assistance, which I truly appreciated. The facility was consistently clean, well-kept, and felt secure. Unfortunately, my unit price increased over time and I had to move out because it became unaffordable for me. Aside from the pricing, everything else about the facility and customer service was positive. I would still recommend this location to others, especially for short-term storage. ... Read more

My rental price increased quite a bit after two months of renting which wasn’t ideal. There also was a ton of mouse droppings in my unit. No one I spoke to seemed to care at all so this must be a common issue. I had to leave because of the mouse dropping all over my belongings and was still charged an early termination fee on my way out. I called the corporate number and no one ever reached back out. I really wasn’t happy with the customer service here. ... Read more

Friendly and efficient service from beginning to end. Made the overall process of moving that much better. The overall space was also very clean. I would recommend and would definitely come back here should I have the need for a storage unit again. ... Read more

Initially the cost of the unit was very reasonable. However, the rate began to increase significantly reaching almost $200 by August. Also, there were mice feces in our unit. We also saw a field mouse running through the storage unit one night. I guess the traps outside the building don’t work. The loading area is strange. There’s a lip which makes it difficult to roll the cart down or up it. I’m surprised this wasn’t made flush with the road. Bathrooms in the building (like Maybe’s in Latham) would be great. I liked the location as it’s very close to our house and easy to access. ... Read more

Rodent Infestation & Horrible Management I give 1 star because zero is not allowed. I recently accessed my storage unit on 4/17/25 here and was horrified to find my sofa, bed frame, and mattress covered in mice feces and urine. This is not just disgusting — it’s a serious health hazard. What’s worse? This place advertises itself as “climate-controlled and pest-free.” That’s clearly false advertising. When I reported it, the manager was incredibly dismissive, telling me this has been “an ongoing issue for months.” Yet no one ever notified me or gave me a chance to protect my belongings. I was completely blindsided. When I asked what could be done, I was told that unless there were visible stains, insurance wouldn’t cover anything — as if mouse feces and urine don’t carry serious health risks. The manager repeatedly said he couldn’t do anything, and only called me back after I complained about him. His tone was rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. I’ve asked for my case to be escalated to upper management because I refuse to deal with him any further. If you value your health, your belongings, and your sanity — STAY AWAY from this facility. ... Read more

I recently moved from my house to a three-bedroom apartment and found it hard to let go of so many memories. After looking for storage options that would keep my things safe from temperature changes, I decided to go with Prime Storage, and I'm really glad I did. Jamell showed me around and made me feel confident that my most treasured items would be well-protected. Thank you for all the assistance! I’ll definitely recommend Prime Storage to my friends and family. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Prime Storage (NY48) - 1653 Central Avenue include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Parking, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 375 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Prime Storage (NY48) - 1653 Central Avenue start from $129 and can go up to $644 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
