If you’re considering Emigrant Storage on Evans Ave in Reno — especially if you’re part of the Burning Man community — do yourself a massive favor and steer clear. While the facility is mediocre and the prices aren’t anything special, it’s the absolutely atrocious customer service that makes this place a hard no. Bob and Debbie, the front-facing staff (if you can even call them that), are two of the most unpleasant and unprofessional people I’ve ever had to deal with in any business — let alone one that relies on customers to function. Bob is condescending, rude, and seems to think every question or request is a personal inconvenience. He talks down to people, offers no help, and acts like his job is to make your experience as difficult as possible. Debbie isn’t any better — cold, passive-aggressive, and astonishingly unhelpful. She cuts people off, doesn’t listen, and gives the distinct impression that you’re wasting her time just by existing. To make matters worse, they are not friendly — in fact, they are outright hostile — toward the Burning Man community. If you’re a Burner looking for a place to store gear or supplies, this is not a welcoming or supportive space. They act irritated at the mere mention of Burning Man, as if Burners are beneath them or a nuisance they barely tolerate. It’s disappointing, considering how much the event contributes to the Reno economy every year. The billing system is disorganized, the communication is terrible, and any attempt to resolve issues is met with attitude and resistance. This isn’t just bad service — it’s aggressively bad. Bottom line: Avoid Emigrant Storage at all costs. Especially if you’re associated with Burning Man. Bob and Debbie are a disaster, and the entire experience feels like you’re being punished for being a paying customer. ... Read more

Highly recommend this place for your storage needs. Office staff has always been friendly, and go over and above to help you. Maintenance guy is always nice and helpful, too. I've had my stuff there for about 7 or 8 years, and never had any problems. Easy to work with and it was nice to know my stuff was safe and secure. Just a tip: If you have an upstairs unit, you'll need to be sure to note the service hours in order to utilize the forklift service for getting your stuff up or down, if you don't want to carry it on the stairs. ... Very accommodating staff and management, they really went out of their way to help facilitate movers when I was in another state. Always very responsive by phone or email. This is not a generic nationally owned storage unit that is impersonal or hard to reach, they are also most reasonable in the fees compared to others in the area, near UNR campus, very clean and friendly. Highly recommend. ... Read more

I actually really loved the time that I was at this storage facility. The people are genuine and friendly. I appreciate that above all, but the place is nice and affordable as well. I didn't really shop around and chose the place on accident, but I'm happy I did. If you end up with an upstairs unit, they've got a forklift for use during office hours. I have pictures somewhere on my phone, but I figured I'd write the review before I forgot to. ?? ... Read more

Rude, unprofessional & unreliable. Reserved online. Posted office hours 9-5pm showed up at 4:20 pm and the office said "sorry we dont take new registers after 4:15". I had my car full of stuff. Drove from Vegas and was turned away! I begged pleeeaase. Nope. She said she has to leave by 5 and had things to do before. ****THEN YOU SHOULD STATE OFFICE HOURS 9 - 4 :15**** Thankfully there was a Public Storage across the street. I went there, super nice. Clean & great price. I recommend going there instead. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Emigrant Storage - 1680 Evans Avenue include the following amenities: 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, First Floor Access and Multi-Level Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 35 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Emigrant Storage - 1680 Evans Avenue start from $60 and can go up to $197 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
