Not even 30 days and my storage unit is hit and valuables stolen! Contract says their not responsible and buy insurance. Well the insurance doesn't cover the identity theft from stolen documents with my personal information on it! I hate this place! You can have 2 locks and they still getting in thru the framework! I'm not the only one, the
whole storage unit got hit and they
couldn't even warn their customer's! Don't store anything of value here without
insurance! They erase bad reviews. I will

This storage unit is absolutely a Scam. I had purchased a unit two days ago and was told it was 24 seven access. I’m in the middle of an emergency move out of state. Showed up at 8:40 PM to load everything into the storage so that I can start my drive. Myself, my sister and my brother-in-law, as well as our six children could not get into the unit. Our code was not working. Called the on-site manager line He sat on the phone for about 40 minutes as soon as it turned 10 o’clock he hung up. And never gave us access. I paid $200 and was told on the phone by one of their representatives last night That the storage unit is no longer 24 hours. And that the manager and the district manager refuses to let us in even though we were there well before 10 PM, which they stated was the cut off time all of a sudden. Police had to get involved because there were squatters in every unloading area that was refusing to let anybody with a U-Haul unload. We were there from 8:30 PM to 11PM. The manager and the district manager refused to remove the squatters and refused to let anyone have access to their unit. My family was not the only one there last night having this issue they stated last night that the manager will be refunding my money today when they get into office which was at 6 AM. They were not wanting to give me a refund until I stated I will get a lawyer involved because this entire process is fraud. You advertise it’s 24 hours you state when someone gets a unit that it’s 24 hours, management does not respond to emergency situations even when the police are the squatters got extremely violent, nor do they fix there system so your code can work. And the rep-Lisa exact words that she said the manager Jorge H and district manager Josh I, had said was they don’t have to answer the phone if they don’t want to and no there will be no access. I had to pay for an extra day for my Uhaul as well as my kids and my nephews and my pregnant sister had to sleep on the floor last night because we couldn’t even start our drive back home. This is 100% of matter that I am going to pursue past my refund. And it needs to be investigated and everybody’s money refunded that they haven’t lied to and took their money. I was already advised if I don’t receive my refund in the next three days I have grounds to actually sue the company for what had happened last night, especially with there being police involvement, children, and extremely aggressive squatters that management just completely ignored as well as the money aspect of fraud. Do not waste your money here. They will charge you and you will not receive access and if there’s an emergency or someone violent on the property, they will not help you nor remove the squatters from living in the loading docs and in the storage units. ... The manager Bill at the W. Charleston Blvd location was fantastic! My rate for a storage space there was going to increase after having been there 6 months and he was able to get me a discounted rate without me having to move all my stuff out to a new one. Annie is absolutely amazing! Her incredible foresight truly sets her apart. She called me as soon as my package arrived and kept it safe until I could pick it up, saving me so much time. Terrible experience renting here for 15 months, but they have the potential to make a turnaround. Tread carefully. I had a drive-up 10'x15' unit.
I'm giving a two-star review instead of one because the current assistant manager, Anny, did a great job and is leagues above her predecessors. Read on for my grievances.
1. I moved in May 2023. There were no issues at all. Then, in July, I noticed there was a weird substance on my container. It was brown, half-crystalized, half-liquid. At first I suspected an animal as the source, but it soon became clear it was from something dripping from the ceiling. I notified management verbally. They were surprisingly very dismissive and didn't want to even acknowledge that it was leaking on my stuff. Strange. I asked a second time verbally for them to look into it. They said they would.
2. After about 6-7 months, I checked back. The leaking substance not only was still there, it got worse. There was clearly something wrong and it was never addressed. It splattered everywhere within a 3 foot radius and contaminated many different items. I notified management. They said it could have been swamp cooler leakage, but again were very dismissive and somehow thought it was acceptable that my items were contaminated by this substance. I pressed further. They said they'd have a roof leak addressed and it should fix the issue. I didn't really care what the issue stemmed from--I just wanted it fixed.
2a. Note that around this time they hiked up the rent from ~$189/mo to about $237/mo. It was going to be even more, but I asked for a discount and they humored me.
3. I come back in August 2024. The ceiling is still leaking on my items. I call management and they are almost hostile that I'm reporting the issue. They also have raised my rent to ~$317/mo. They're also almost hostile when I inquire about the even higher rent. Yes, I understand that it's provisioned in the lease, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. So not only did they not fix the leak after multiple notifications, they salt the wound with higher rent.
I finally had enough of Storage Express's antics. I understand the transition from Extra Space to Storage Express will have some hiccups, but this was unacceptable. Repeatedly ignoring water damage and hiking the rent up unscrupulously is simply greedy behavior.
That said, I want to reiterate that the current assistant manager, Anny, is an angel and graciously helped me out when I closed my account with them. Well done, Anny. Keep up the good work!
