Very happy with my experience at Extra Space Storage so far. I recently needed to rent a second unit, & Troy tried to save me money by combining into a larger unit. Even though it wasn't possible for my circumstances, I appreciated the transparency very much. I'm also appreciative of their compassion. I recently experienced a traumatic loss of my three fur babies & apartment at the same time, which is why I'm requiring the storage units. They have been very compassionate & understanding. The facility is vast but organized well. Quite creepy when you're there alone at night, but that's a little to be expected. They have a loading zone that you can back up to & carts for moving items to units as well as a spacious elevator. Units have a seal at the base of the door to prevent unwanted critters or water from entering. Extra Space Storage is a top notch storage facility! We rented a unit for the interim between moves, and are so impressed with not only the storage locker and how clean & tidy the building is, but also the excellent customer service provided by Troy and Brad. Loved the climate controlled interior, the warehouse carts to haul our belongings, the padded elevator sized to easily fit a king size mattress or long couch, and the access to interior space to load/unload belongings out of vehicle. ?????? UPDATE 4/30: Would not recommend under any circumstances. While I was able to get HQ to reduce my rate to $140 (still a $20 rate hike), the local contact, Troy, called me today to follow-up with my concerns. I shared my thoughts on the lack of cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, and instead of addressing these issues, Troy simply responded with "sorry if you feel that way" - a non-apology that completely dismissed the issue. He then shared that he has "more pressing matters" than ensuring the facility's cleanliness and proper maintenance - which should be fundamental responsibilities. The poor maintenance combined with this level of customer service is unacceptable. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for your storage needs. Original Review, 4/28: ?????? One star is too generous, but it's the lowest rating allowed, so here we are. I’ve been at the Clancey Street storage facility since August of 2023, when it was previously Mini Storage Depot. For context, before Extra Space's acquisition of Mini Storage in September, I typically saw rent increases of $2–10 every six months. Although the facility has never been particularly clean or well-maintained, that's somewhat expected for a storage unit. This April, my monthly rate jumped a full $80. Nothing at the facility has changed. The floors are still unkept, the building is poorly maintained, and customer service is nearly non-existent. Because it’s nearly impossible to contact local facility staff, I had to resort to the general help line. I was told this new rate was "market rate." When I challenged that prior increases were never this dramatic and that nothing at the facility had improved, they suddenly claimed market rates had actually decreased since the rate evaluation that had just occurred. They said they would "request" my rate be reduced by $30 to match current market rates, which still leaves me with a $50 increase. While I understand this is a business and profits are necessary, there is absolutely no justification for an $80 rate increase other than shameless price gouging. 0/100 would not recommend. ... I've loved using this rental unit. Troy went above and beyond to help me when I was struggling with setting up my unit. The units are always a comfortable temperature. I always felt safe being there even when I was alone. One of the coolest features is that you can pull your car inside one of 2 garage bays for loading/unloading! Another big plus is they they have nice big rolling carts that fit perfectly in the elevators, so you can save a ton of effort when you're moving things around! Embarrassingly, I forgot which unit was mine once and they were able to verify my identity and help get me that info. This storage company was previously known as Mini Storage Depot, and I was very satisfied with my experience working with them. I could easily make payments over the phone or online, even using two different cards when necessary, I appreciated and occasionally needed. Now, under their new name, Extra Space Storage, my experience has been less positive. When I called to speak with a team member, they didn’t initially mention that it was possible to make payments online using two cards. When I brought it up, they confirmed it could be done, but after trying to navigate their website, I found it isn’t actually possible. Additionally, I’m upset that my bill has increased without clear notification. Amid the usual flow of mail, I didn’t notice any letter informing me of the rate hike. The representative explained that they regularly compare their prices with other storage companies and adjust rates accordingly, but the lack of communication has left me feeling blindsided. An email in addition to the letter would have made the change less jarring. Overall, this experience feels unnecessarily difficult and, frankly, oppressive. I was also told that I could make a payment using two different cards, but only if I went to their office in person to sign something. With all the technology available today, this seems absolutely ridiculous.
