It only took 25 years! My wife Suzy and I had a really great experience with Gull Lake Marine beginning at the 2025 February Grand Rapids boat with our 1st boat purchase. We ordered a new Boston Whaler 170 Montauk, the Unsinkable Legend! It only took 25 years to bring this dream to the water LOL, as this was when my young family first test drove the Montauk at the Gull Lake Marina. This purchase became the 5th Boston whaler in our family, beginning with a 13 sport purchased new in the 70’s, to its 21’ Outrage big brother. Our salesman Nick Farris, Blake, Dawn, along with all the behind-the-scenes Gull Lake employees really made this experience seamless and worry-free, especially for this newbie who always asks a lot of questions. On our 1st day of fishing our son Matthew broke in the Montauk with a respectable Walleye on Lake Fenton, in Fenton MI, to two weeks later on her maiden cold-water voyage on Lake Michigan putting a beefy Steelhead in the box out of the Holland Michigan launch. Since then, not a weekend has passed without a safe, fun and exciting experience of tubing/skiing on our local and northern Michigan lakes, looking very forward to family time exploring many-many lakes/waterways in and outside of Michigan. A big thanks again to the Gull Lake Marina staff along with all the skilled tradesman in Edgewater Florida for fulfilling this dream, making this new experience a fun and stress free one! We’ve purchased our last two boats from Gull Lake Marine and have had a great experience both times. Our latest purchase was a Robalo 230 Explorer that we worked on with Nick Farris. Nick and I first touched base in August of 2024 when my wife and I decided that it was time to upgrade from out Boston Whaler 170 Montauk, which we had also purchased from Gull Lake Marine in 2018. Nick stayed in constant contact with us through the fall and winter months to see how the process was going to offer any help that he could. When the 230 Robalo hit the showroom Nick had us in mind knowing that this boat was in our wheelhouse. He sent videos and set us up with passes to the GR boat show so we could see the boat in person. We weren’t disappointed and left that day with a purchase agreement in place. Even after the post buying experience Nick still checks in to see if everything is alright and if there’s anything that he can help with. Having purchased many new vehicles I can say that level of customer service is almost unheard of. ... Read more

On March 16, 2023 I bought a motor from them on the understanding it was a 30 inch XXL shaft which I needed. After getting it to my mechanic for install he informed me it was a 25 inch XL shaft and now we would have to marry my old shaft to the new motor which would be another $800 . After all work was done and install was complete I was able to splash the boat for the first time April 29, 2023. Ran like a dream only to find out later in the evening as temps hit 55-58 degrees and headed back to the dock the motor on plain would then go into limp mode until the throttle was returned to neutral and start all over again. Fast forward to warmer temperatures and it was fine. 2 months later over July 4th weekend is where the big problems began. The foam on the inside of the motor dropped on top of the motor and got chewed up and shot through the entire motor. I got the motor all cleaned out but it still didn’t run right and was fouling spark plugs so the boat got parked. After calling many times and leaving messages for a call back someone finally answered. So asking to speak to the woman that sold me the motor I find out she ghosted the company and never returned. I then asked to speak with the sales writer who finalized the sale and was supposed to handle my warranty paperwork. Come to find out he had been fired and never entered my warranty agreement. I then was told there was no warranty on my motor and it would be full price for diagnostic and repairs. Didn’t have much choice at this point but to just pay it. After dropping the boat off and telling them EXACTLY what happened and I thought pieces of the foam had made its way through the intake and into the reeds. I SPECIFICALLY asked them to FIX the motor and I would pay for it. It sat for 4 weeks before even being looked at and I know this because I got regular pictures of it sent to me still sitting under the cottonwood trees and getting filled with tree junk. On the 5th week of it being there I finally get a call saying diagnosis was done was done and it “had the wrong spark plugs” so come get it and you can just “fix it yourself” and pay the $285 bill. Defeats the purpose of “fix it for me”. I picked it up and put the plugs in they told me it needed. Now it ran EVEN WORSE!!! Since no one wants to work anymore and fix what is broken or honor warranty. Having no experience with repairing outboards I then decided to finally tear into the motor myself and what did I find? Yup foam in the reeds exactly like I thought. A 1 hour start to finish job to clean it out and it’s fine now. Thanks for costing me so much money and stealing from me Gull Lake Marine. You will never have my business again and I tell EVERYONE what you did and how I was treated. ... Read more

Gull Lake has refused to respond to any of my correspondence. I have contacted them multiple ways and nothing. After not receiving a response to my letter below, i filed a complaint with the BBB. Gull lake still has not made ant effort to resolve or make contact. My submitted letter is below. ———————————————————- 07/10/2024 From: Jason J. Baer 5076 Maple Acres Ln. Hudsonville, MI. 49426 To: Gull Lake Marine 10261 M89 Highway Richland, MI. 49083 To whom it may concern, In October 2023, I took my 2005 Monterey 298 SC in to have the twin Mercruiser 350 Mags serviced. I purchased the boat in July of 2023. Since I was new to sterndrives, I wanted to have it professionally serviced the first time so that any issues could be brought to my attention and rectified. After speaking with Blake Maki at the Coopersville location, I decided to go with the service plan that changed the oil and removed the outdrives so that the bellows and gimbal bearings could be inspected. This was $2263.24 (invoice enclosed). At the time of pick up, Blake stated the boat was in good mechanical condition. Fast forward to May 2024. I put the boat the water May 4, 2024. During our first 3-4 rides of the season, there was a noticeable grinding sound coming from the engines when I would turn. After speaking with a few others, it was possible it could be a gimbal bearing. I pulled the boat from the water on 5/8/2024 and removed the outdrives on 5/10/2024. I have enclosed photos of the bellows and gimbal bearings. Once I removed the outdrives, it was extremely clear what the problem was. I contacted Blake via email on 5/21/2024 and verified with him that the services I paid for included oil changes, lubing zerks, lubing propeller shafts and removing the outdrives for bellow and gimbal bearing inspection. His reply was “That is correct. Our technicians pulled the drives and did an inspection.” As you can see from the photos, I doubt the drives were pulled and inspected. One bearing was completely rusted. I am not disputing that bearings and bellows go bad, I am disputing that I paid for a service that was not performed. The photos kind of make this obvious. I ended up replacing the bellows and gimbal bearings myself. So, in addition to the $2000.00+ I spent, I had to pay to another $1089.58 to fix the issue (two gimbal bearings and all bellows), not to mention my time. Gull lake did a good job at replacing my trailer jack at this time. Before putting the boat in the water, I also had Gull Lake reprogram my engine so that I could run Vessell View Mobile with my twin engines. I purchased a 2017 Boston Whaler 170SS from Gull lake in 2018 and had is serviced there once or twice. The last contact I had with Blake on 5/30/2024 he informed me it went to management. As of 7/10/2024 I have not heard anything regarding this issue. This is why I am contacting the primary office of Gull Lake Marine. I am looking for restitution on the parts that I purchased to complete the job (receipts enclosed). Store credit is a great option because I perform most of my maintenance and Gull Lake in Coopersville is convenient for me. Another reason for writing is to bring to your attention the quality of work that is being performed. I even told Blake that I doubt he has time to follow his technicians around and micro-manage, but there needs to be some accountability. Regards, Jason J. Baer ******UPDATE 12/26/2024***** On12/19/24, Courtney reached me by telephone. We discussed what my issue was and my proposed resolution. She was very nice and apologetic for the inconvenience and delay in getting my issues resolved. There was acknowledgment of the short comings of the department. I appreciated the fact she did not try and deflect the issues and place blame, but accepted the blame and stated they are working on making things better. After all said and done, they gave me exactly what my proposed resolution was. I received an email the next day with all the details. Thank you Courtney for getting this done. Looking forward to seeing Blake this year for all part needs. ... Read more

Purchasing my boat through Gull Lake was a fantastic experience—great boat, great sales process, and smooth delivery. However, the service department was a completely different story and left me very disappointed. From the start, there were issues with inaccurate invoices, poor communication, and a complete lack of professionalism. My boat was picked up from the marina without my knowledge on the wrong day, and I wasn’t notified—it was the marina that informed me, not Gull Lake. The boat ended up being in service for nearly 30 days for winterization and repairs, and I had to repeatedly follow up myself to find out the status. Apparently, keeping clients informed isn’t a priority here. To make things worse, I was quoted one price for the service and billed a completely different amount. While they acknowledged it was a mistake, the overall experience showed a pattern of carelessness and poor customer service. I regret not purchasing my boat through Hall’s just down the road, would have been closer at the least. Would have been nice to keep using them. Maybe it was just a one time thing with my experience there, who knows. Just a disappointing end to an experience. ... Read more

We purchased a Harris Grand Mariner 250 and so happy with the PLUS program (it’s a boar, right?). We thought we wanted a cabin cruiser but after they walked us through lots of questions to find out what we liked and didn’t like about boating, we have the perfect boat that we actually use all the time. It’s been two seasons now and Nick has been more than helpful to make sure we are satisfied and keep our boat seaworthy. The entire team is friendly, but Nick definitely goes out of his way to make sure he understands what we need or want and then takes care of it. This extra service is definitely a differentiator! Thank you Gull Lake Marine. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Gull Lake Marine - 15704 48th Avenue include the following amenities: Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Gate, Parking, Enclosed and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
