Read some helpful reviews of Read Street Self Storage at 217 Read Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

When I first used Read street, I had moved to Portland from Nashville. I didn’t know where or which storage company to use. Man oh man did I get lucky and picked the right one. I have unfortunately had many storage units over the past 30 years or so, but Read street storage was the first one I actually liked. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I’ve worked with Sherry and she couldn’t be more helpful. Always greats me with a smile and always helpful. I’m leaving the area, so it’s the first time I’ve ever left a storage unit and wish I didn’t have to. Thanks for the convenience and the great storage facility. I recommend Read Street 100%. ... I’ve been a Read Street Self Storage customer for nearly 10 years, starting with a 10 X 6 unit then upgrading to a 10 X 10. Throughout my time the property has been clean, with plenty of carts as I moved items back & forth between my car and the storage unit. Earlier this year, I spent several hours reorganize my unit during a stretch of unpleasant humid weather. Yet, the storage property maintained a comfortable temperature despite the heat outside. Every interaction I’ve had with the manager, Sherrie, has exceeded my expectations. When I reported an issue with a second unit I just rented Sherrie properly identified another unit located only feet away from my other unit. Sherrie has always been professional & friendly. I definitely recommend Read Street Self Storage for anyone’s storage needs. ... Read more

I have used Read St self storage for the past 5 years and have never had any issues. I found it to be clean, and I always felt like my things were truly safe there. They have been very accommodating and I was able to change units as my needs changed. I would recommend Read St Self Storage to anyone needing to store their belongings, and should I need storage again, I will return! ... Read more

Application process was simple and straightforward. Rules seem reasonable and setup process was pretty easy as well. Sherrie was very helpful and even let me see a unit and take a tour before deciding to purchase the unit. Overall, very good experience! ... Read more

BEWARE to STORAGE TREASURE users!!!! I have been buying units off of storage treasures the past few years. I have won at least 40 units through storage treasures and have had one other similar situation as I experienced today. I called today (March 10th at 906am) so I could let them know- that the 1st photo and the 4th photo on from their storage facility- contradicted each other. Sherry called me back and SHERRY admitted to moving stuff around in the units for a better picture. That’s completely against the rules and any binding contract that they (the storage unit facility) and we (the consumer) have- with storage treasures. I then asked for sherrys manager- and I called the number provided. I left a voicemail and my call was returned within a couple of minutes. I then talk to a BRIAN (who claims to be the Vice President but his voicemail says manager) and he was extremely aggressive talking to me, I was in disbelief. Brian said they ARE allowed to move items in LIEN units around for a better picture for OUR (the consumers) benefit. Brian said he didn’t want to argue- and that he is shutting down the auction to avoid conflict and will put it back up in a couple of days. I wasn’t expecting this kind of very aggressive response from him- but I simply asked him- if you guys (Storage facility management) aren’t violating any contract with storage treasures- why bother canceling the auction? All he could respond with is he doesn’t want to argue. It is of great disappointment that this storage unit facility would violate a contract yet commend their staff (SHERRY) for moving and touching anything in that unit. When I asked Brian to show me on the storage treasure contract (that The consumer and storage facility AGREE UPON) exactly where In writing- that they have authorization to physically touch and move items around in a lien unit? THIS ISNT A CHARITY UNIT- it’s a LIEN unit- which literally means no one is allowed to touch the items inside the unit. This unit had a clear photo of a bunch of books BUT a clearly forward facing PS4 box that you could see in photo one- but swipe to photo 4 and now you see the SIDE of a ps4 box and you see the usps mail box that was flat and next to the ps4 box- has been opened and placed on top of the white styrofoam box. If I was mistaken (and judging by the contract that we all abide by I know I am not in the wrong) but if I was mistaken- why in the world would they (read street self storage in Portland Maine) cancel and take down the auction if they weren’t violating anything? They have finally been exposed and BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!!DO NOT DO AUCTIONS WITH THEM- They aren’t allowed to at any moment- touch or move any item at all in a LIEN UNIT. But Brian ASSURED me that SHERRY would “never steal from a unit”. I believe they are taking things wrongfully. There’s contracts and rules to abide by- this storage facility is NOT an honest one and more than likely-have been ripping off auction winners simply by violating storage treasures contract to the highest degree as again- YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH OR MOVE ANYTHING IN THE LIEN UNITS. I will make sure I reach ALL appropriate higher ups to help make sure they abide by the agreed upon contracts. STORAGE TREASURE AUCTION USERS- BEWARE AND AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS!!!!! ... I've had this storage unit since 2020. The old owner & managers were awesome. The new owner/management have raised the cost of renting to almost $100/unit increase in the past 2 years with no signs of stopping. I started by paying $180/mo, now I pay $270/mo. I will be removing my belongings & will never recommend this place again, honestly. Find a better place that actually has temperature control! This place DOES NOT! ... Read more

I like to see work well done and Read Street Storage does that. Sherrie the facility manager makes any interactions pleasant and easy. She give a sense of security that the storage of precious stuff is safe and in a clean environment. I don't write recommendations often but had to after my recent interaction with Sherrie. ... Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Read Street Self Storage - 217 Read Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 20 to 330 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Read Street Self Storage - 217 Read Street start from $35 and can go up to $575 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
