*Response to owner. My unit was under my full name. William E. Holmes. I did 3 instead of 4 stars because I had issues getting my access with the automatic kiosk system, which took getting in touch with someone to resolve. And since I was setup for autopay, my cancellation was another process that required getting a person involved. Signing up and paying was all online, but getting in and getting out involved trying to find a live person. Otherwise the facility was nice, well maintained and suited my needs. ... Read more

On the night of Friday, April 2, 2021 I was in Ruston Louisiana picking up my daughter from her University. Unfortunately the mid-sized rental SUV I rented could not store all of her belongings for the eleven hour trip back to Chicago. Due to be back on the road at 3am Saturday morning 4/3/2 while in my hotel room I contacted Ruston Storage after viewing their advertisement for 24 hour storage. I spoke with a lady on the phone who sated she could get me a storage unit for $135.00 and could take my payment over the phone but I needed to finish registration at the facility using their kiosk. This was approximately 10pm. Not once did she mention to me access to the actual facility at the gate was only 5am -11pm. She took my debit card info and debited $135.00 and told me to proceed to the facility to complete my registration via the Kiosk and get my access code to the gate. Upon arrival at the facilities front gate at approximately 10:15pm the kiosk was located outside the gate and the gate was locked. I guess I completed my registration because the kiosk printed me a blank piece of paper, sold me a $10 lock which came out through the chute which I am not disputing the charge for the lock. The kiosk then emailed me a confirmation number which happens to be my cellular telephone number and a gate access code. After several failed attempts of entering the access code I pressed the call button on the kiosk and a female voice advised me of the facilities access hours of 5am till 11pm and it takes 10- 15 minutes for my access code to become functional. So I waited 15 minutes or so now it is approximately 10:40pm and the code still did not work. At this point I’m extremely tired from flying in and need sleep to start my 3am drive back to Chicago. The code continued to not work all the way up till the 11pm access time and after. I called the number on the email asking to speak with a manager who after hearing this story claimed he was only a third party answering service and he could only call the night manager of Ruston Storage. Supposedly these calls were being tapped, I was not happy! He told me the Ruston Storage Manager would call me to cancel this transaction/policy and refund my money. After getting 4 hours of sleep to start my drive back to Chicago I stopped by the facility one last time after 5am to see if I had access and the code still did not work. I never gained access to a storage unit nor did anyone from this place even bother to return my call.. As of today’s date 04/15/2021 I still have not heard from Ruston Storage and had to leave several personal items of my daughters in her dorm room and hope the University doesn’t fine me or worse dispose of her belongings.. This is a terrible facility with extremely bad business practices. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Ruston Self Storage - 1612 Commerce Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Unstaffed Location, Kiosk Available, Parking and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
