Rented storage units here for years. The Lady, she is a kind and sweet lady who runs this location. Never had a problem with her. They work with you on paying if you're late. I only wish they would start online payments. We can't always make it there on the 1st. It would be nice to be able to pay online. I think most bad reviews on here come from people who bring their problems from home including the mice. I keep my area clean and sweep my storage whenever I can. Please make sure when you get a storage unit, you personally clean and sanitize it before putting your furniture in a unit. And then bait it just in case. Before blaming a location that cannot protect you from the other renters next to you. Spray your units and set traps if you must but don't blame the storage place because anyone could have brought them, including yourselves. ... Read more

So as of right now, I do not believe that the storage unit is a very safe place to be or to hold your thanks. Just over the holiday weekend they had over four break-ins including mine so that's five made off of well over 13,000 worth of stuff out of my storage unit which was supposed to be secured. I'm extremely upset and not a single compensation was offered for their lack of security and responsibility over their storage unit I would highly suggest nobody put their stuff here anymore cuz it is not safe ... I RAN INTO ANOTHER PERSON RENTING SPACE AND THEY SAID SINCE THEIR PROPERTY HAD BEEN IN STORAGE FOR TWO MONTHS THEY HAD GOTTEN BED BUGS AND MICE! The owner refused help and did not care! Thankfully it wasn't the same aisle as my unit but I feel terrible for them. Everything was ruined! I rented a unit in the beginning of July 2020. I was told I had to pay for all of July and August upfront even though I only needed the unit for one week (July 7th to July 13th) . No worries, I went ahead and paid the rent for both months. After 7 days I had the unit cleaned out and called to get reimbursed for August's rent. The manager refused and said tough luck. I called the owner and politely explained what happened. He said oh well, We have the cheapest rates in town and refuse to give any money back even if you pay for a year upfront, that's how we keep our rates down. I paid almost 100 for 7 days of storage. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Richmond Fort Knox Storage - 727 North 3rd Street include the following amenities: Drive-Up Access, Security Camera, Gate, Unstaffed Location, Parking and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
