I wish I could remember the employee’s name when I went to Skokie for the first time on Thursday, July 24, 2025. As a woman, I found it scary to navigate a big building with few people around but I asked if she could show me the ropes and she was so helpful and patient. I would suggest posting directional signs on the walls as you get off the elevator in case you’re not sure where to go, which I really needed. We wandered about with a cart until we could figure out where my storage unit was located and it was really hot and humid that day so looking for it made it worse. It would be really helpful to have it posted. Also, an emergency alert button would make me as s woman feel safer. I did appreciate how clean and organized the building and grounds were. Thanks for the opportunity to review. ... Read more

So far, so good. I just moved in. Roger was very helpful with the walk through and explained everything that I need to know. I was prepared when I returned with my movers a few days later. The facilities are very clean and there were enough moving carts to go around! ... Read more

I've been renting a unit here for the past 5 years. The district manager named Darien took care of my issues here at this location. He is very understanding and willing to work with you. Please ask for the district manager's phone number if there's anything you'd like to address but cannot be resolved by the staffs in this location. ... Read more

UPDATE: My experience has improved. I did receive a call from them regarding the areas they could improve in, and I have seen the effort put forth to do so, so I've allowed my things to remain there. New, heated, and clean, but none of that matters when there's ALWAYS a problem with locating a cart to move your things around with, and rude staff members who tell you "There's nothing they can do about it, you just have to go search for one!" If I'm not mistaken, there's 4 floors there, REALLY!? SMH ..... ... Read more

“I’ve been using this Public Storage facility for the past few months, and I couldn’t be happier with the service! The unit I rented has climate control, which gives me peace of mind knowing that my belongings are kept in a stable environment, especially since I store sensitive items. Roger here is friendly and always willing to help. The facility is clean, secure, and easily accessible. Plus, the online reservation system was super convenient! Highly recommend this location if you need reliable storage.” ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 5830 Howard Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 5830 Howard Street start from $30 and can go up to $422 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
