Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage at 1040 East State Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

After renting a 10x10 unit online when I got there to retrieve the key nobody was working, there was broken glass all over the driveway, and once I gained access to the unit it was dirty with was a wasp nest inside it. Then after only having the account for 5 months I got an email saying there would be a 40% price increase. Would not recommend! ... Read more

UPDATED Again: Caprice was very helpful with questions I had about moving some stuff out — thank you!! UPDATED REVIEW: (3-Stars) District manager reached out after I posted review and did what he could to make this right, which I appreciated. I did go back and viewed my payment history, and over the last 12 months my storage payments had increased by 85%, nearly double, so I'm not crazy! I hope this review encourages PS to be forthright and transparent with new customers about likely rate increases and reminds potential customers about the importance of entering any contract with your eyes wide open. ORIGINAL REVIEW: (1-Star) I don’t post a lot of reviews but the way this place has raised my rates (2 units) over the last year should be criminal. They will give you a great price at first — but don’t believe it! A couple months after you get your stuff moved into the unit they will start raising your rate. It won’t take long before you’ll have spent more on storage rental than your furniture or whatever is worth. Plus these units don’t keep out bugs, rodents, or all the tree pollen in the spring. I suspect they know it’s a huge pain to move your stuff out of storage and they quickly take advantage of the situation. Better to simply sell your stuff or even give it away. At a minimum require management give you a written guarantee not to raise your rate. If you sign up online like I did you are totally powerless and will regret it. ... Read more

Although the people who work at this storage facility are nice and helpful, the road to the units is not well maintained. On a fairly warm January day two weeks ago, my husband and I removed a few items. It had snowed earlier in the week and nothing had been plowed. The entrance to where our unit was located had a leak from the gutter, forming ice upon which my husband fell. Two weeks later and he still has pain. A little salt, a little care would have helped a lot. I did complain but no one expressed a bit of concern. Given the monthly fee, it would seem to be a good idea to keep up the property. I would not recommend this storage facility. ... Read more

My father used this Public Storage for years before we moved him into a supportive living facility. Very grateful to Caprice for making the process of emptying out his rental space during this challenging time of transition easier! Thank you so much! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 1040 East State Street include the following amenities: Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 1040 East State Street start from $20 and can go up to $209 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
