We transferred from one unit to another on the last day of the year. Rebecca was a valued Public Storage administrator during our late-in-the-day and last day of the year transfer. She contacted me directly the first business day of the new year to assure me that all was completed successfully and recorded accurately. I was worried. Her proactive call (and reassurance) is the reason I took the time to write this review. Thank you, Rebecca. ... Read more

Rebecca & John were most helpful in assisting me in an extension on my payment. No one wants their stuff auctioned off the day after Christmas. Fortunate for me, Rebecca and John were there to make my sail smooth. Great people, professional establishmen. 10/10 Recommended. ... Read more

The facility is perfectly fine, and the onsite manager is terrific, but the reservation system is convoluted -- you can't get the cheaper rates in person, you have to do that online. But to opt out of the insurance add-on fees you have to go in person, as the online system forces you into accepting their insurance coverage. ... Read more

The price offered online for the unit I currently am renting is $70/month for promotional pricing and $101/month for standard pricing. I currently am being charged $271/month. When I questioned how I could be paying ~4x the currently offered rate, they told me that my agreement permits them to raise my price as they wish...and they did. Be careful of renting here unless you are not price sensitive. Follow-up - the comment from management that follows - they will share my note with management - don't be deceived by the neutral nature of the comment. I was offered a ~$30/month discount off of the $271/month rental for six months or still to be charged ~3.5x the published rate. I would never suggest renting from here. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 1414 South Wabash Avenue include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Contactless Renting, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 1414 South Wabash Avenue start from $54 and can go up to $493 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
