The Storage King USA facility in Orlando on Orange blossom behind Aldi where my unit was located is; in my experience, a terrible facility that has serious ongoing problems with rodents, sanitation, security, and management. The property is infested with rodents, and as a direct result of that infestation, my personal belongings sustained extensive damage and contamination from rodent urine, droppings, and other rodent activity. When I accessed my unit, I discovered that numerous items had been damaged and contaminated. This includes winter clothing, books, educational materials for my autistic child and speech therapy resources, apothecary herbs, oils, tinctures, and other personal belongings. The contamination rendered many porous items unsafe to use, clean, or salvage. The odor and visible evidence of rodent activity were consistent with a significant infestation. The property manager personally confirmed to me that there was a rodent infestation issue at the facility. During our conversation, she stated that rodent activity was common and normal at the property and advised that she was doing her best to manage the problem. She further explained that she regularly monitored and emptied rat traps throughout the facility. Based on this conversation, it is my understanding that management was aware of the ongoing rodent problem prior to my discovery of the damage to my belongings. In addition to the rodent infestation, I personally observed homeless individuals sleeping in storage units and using units for bathing and showering purposes. These conditions raised serious concerns regarding the security, oversight, sanitation, and management of the facility. Based on my observations, the property was not being properly secured or adequately monitored. Customers should reasonably expect that a storage facility will maintain basic security standards and take steps to prevent unauthorized occupancy and activities that create health and safety concerns. My unit was not properly secured, and I believe the overall condition of the property reflected a lack of adequate management and maintenance. The conditions present at the facility created an environment where rodent infestations and other serious issues were allowed to continue without being properly addressed. I also found the property manager to be dismissive, and unprofessional when concerns regarding the facility and my damaged property were raised. Rather than addressing legitimate concerns regarding sanitation, rodents, security, and damage to customer property, I felt my concerns were not taken seriously. The conditions I observed were unacceptable for a business entrusted with storing and protecting customers’ personal property. Based on my experience and observations, the rodent infestation, contamination issues, security concerns, unauthorized occupancy, and management response contributed to the damage and loss of my belongings. Everything described above is based upon my personal observations and experiences at the facility. The conditions were severe enough that I believe they directly contributed to the destruction and contamination of my stored property and the resulting insurance claim. In my opinion, the rodent infestation was not an isolated incident but an ongoing condition known to facility management, as evidenced by the manager’s statements regarding the routine use and daily maintenance of rat traps throughout the property. I paid my rent a month in advance and I passed out do an organizing in my storage and they threw me out because of that and then I had some stuff sitting outside my storage when I went to the store and came back they threw away $1,000 of stuff of mine and they ripped me off on my month rent. They have rats and roaches and everything around there is filthy and nasty. They are a scam and rip-off they will take your s*** and sell it. There's nothing but a whole bunch of junkies. Do you want to know and see the reality about this Storage Property? Here; Donna will treat you like you’re living in the facilities, and definitely she won’t give you the customer service you deserve when renting a unit, since people live in here. When taking my belongings out to finish the renting with them, found that everything was full of mice ?? poop & pee. When I told her about, she said I have to go to my Insurance and make a claim. After giving up about taking the contaminated stuff with me, ask her about the dumpster in the facilities, and she said no, that the dumpster is for their use to charge me $200.00 for cleaning and not taking the contaminated stuff out of the unit. Even cleaning myself the unit ask her for soap, having it next to her, she said no.
