The store manager called me to tell me I needed to make my monthly payment after I had already done so. I asked if I could get a partial refund for moving out before my renewal date, and she said yes. I only had my items in the unit for 6 days of the month. When I called to get a refund she lied and said she never said that. The rates also go up after 3 months. The store manager is a liar. Avoid. ... Read more

I signed up for my storage unit in Plainville, CT over the phone. It could not have been easier. The associate was very friendly and explained the whole process in a clear and concise manner. I also received a call afterward from the manager of the facility welcoming me and explained all that I needed to know about entering the property. In addition, I found the building and the unit were clean as a whistle. ... Read more

The manager and the experience was terrific . Oksana the manager was amazing and a delight to work with. The 3 star rating was for price. I prepaid for 4 months at a larger unit for around $245 a month. When the 4 months were up the price skyrocketed to $390 a month. I understand an increase but that was a little ridiculous. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the huge price increase. ... Read more

I have been and continue to be extremely satisfied with every aspect of my storage rental from Extra Space Storage. They had the perfect availability exactly when I needed it, with the right size unit that was spotless and in excellent condition. Even when I thought I was charged for a used lock (which I wasn’t, by the way), the woman at the counter promptly replaced it as soon as I asked. It turned out that the first lock I received was simply the standard one they provide to everyone. My experience has been flawless, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a storage unit. Naturally, the affordable prices initially drew me in, and now I’m even closing my account with another well-known storage company to move everything over to Extra Space Storage. ... Read more

Honestly, I don’t even think Extra Space storage deserves even a star on record. I’m not the type of person to leave a review on anything but my experience was the worst experience I’ve had in all my years. That is why I feel the need to let everyone know my experience just so that everyone’s aware of what occurred. When I was renting with life storage after a few months extra space storage bought them out but it was now extra space storage. I was really disappointed to hear the news because of their price increases, but I left my things in there because I was in the middle of winter. On July 17th I grab my belongings with my fiancé and as we were putting things in the truck I realized the boxes were flimsy. Previously before this I would check up on my unit I would say about every 4-6 months and everything seemed and looked fine and there was always a nice cool temperature there never thought that anything was wrong with any of my belongings. I didn’t think much of the boxes because they aren’t anything valuable and thought the items inside were ok. Until we grabbed the big pieces such as my bed frame and dresser. When we pull them out into the light we saw that it was damaged by moisture, all my furniture had mold and mildew on it. Everything that was made out of wood was damaged. Including what was in my boxes. I thought to myself that I have payed insurance for my storage unit for about 2 years and that they could help me in some way with this issue. I called the office immediately when we noticed the items damaged they told me to just come inside to grab a flyer with the information provided on it to start the process of a claim. I was also advised to take pictures of my items because they will need it for the claim. When I contacted the claim personnel they told me they would call the manager in that facility to get more information and to see if they can proceed with the claim. Manager states that he wasn’t aware of my situation and that I never filed a complaint with them. That there was nothing in their notes. You would think they would blame their employees for not filing the proper paperwork or not notifying the manager about the issue but instead blamed me for it when I for one never had this happened to my belongings before at any other storage place and I didn't know the process and what steps to take. That’s why I called and stopped by their office after i loaded everything in the truck, in hopes that I would be let into the right direction. All I was given was a flyer! Just yesterday they called me about my claim after weeks of me waiting for an answer. Sent the all the pictures and evidence. I was told that the manager in that facility didn’t see any water damage into my unit and so in order for them to give me any compensation for my belongings that there needs to be prof of any water intrusion to unit. Mind you I didn’t get a chance to look for myself to see if there was so I asked the claim personnel if they can keep the claim open until I can see it for myself. I was told ok. When I try to go into the facility I wasn’t able to get in with my code. It was not working. So I looked at my emails to see if the storage company emailed me and I saw an email saying that I was all moved out and thank you for renting. When I had payed for another full month and did not personally request to be moved out yet. So I basically payed another month, took my things out two days later and for them to close my account themselves without my permission I’m assuming just because I reported this claim. The reason why I didn’t request to move out just yet was because I payed for the month and I wanted to see the outcome of the process of my claim. I’m very upset and disappointed about this whole entire experience. No matter how I felt about my experience storing my items there, and knowing I would have to re purchase a new bedroom set when this one wasn’t even two years old they did not care, not one ounce. Please don’t store your items with Extra Space Storage! Terrible, terrible feeling going through this! ... Read more

Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Extra Space Storage - 405 New Britain Avenue start from $44 and can go up to $414 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
