Read some helpful reviews of FreeUp Storage at 2003 Hwy 280, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

WARNING ABOUT FREEUP STORAGE (Phenix City, AL) Especially military families and anyone new to the area. I’m posting this because I truly wish someone had warned us. This storage place has gone completely downhill ever since the new management took over, and what’s happening feels predatory, especially to military families who rely on honesty during moves, deployments, and transitions. When we first rented our unit, it was nothing like this. The older management cared. The prices were fair. The building was actually climate controlled and secure. Everything changed overnight. Since the new management stepped in, they’ve been raising rents by $80+ at a time, multiple times… with absolutely no improvements, actually things have gotten worse. Here’s what the “new management” brought: ? Broken doors left wide open for anyone to access 16 hours a day for months ? Animals and insects getting inside ? Extreme heat for months in a building advertised as “climate controlled,” with absolutely no responsibility taken for the damage that heat can cause ? Zero security ? No accountability ? No communication ? No professionalism ? And after speaking to multiple other customers, reports of rodent activity and signs of infestation inside the building which are completely unacceptable for a place we’re paying this much to store our belongings. They’ve suddenly gotten a wave of positive reviews, but those do not match the reality that long term renters are living with, broken doors, heat, insects, animals, and nonstop rate hikes. Yet somehow, they keep raising the price again and again. And the part that hurts the most? They absolutely prey on military families. They know military families: – are moving – are deploying – are out of state – don’t have time to fight – don’t have the ability to come empty a unit – often have no choice but to stay They take full advantage of that. And the contract? It’s one of the most trapping, one sided documents I’ve ever seen. ?? They can raise your rent ANY amount, ANY time, with NO cap ?? They take ZERO responsibility for damage even when it’s their negligence ?? They take no responsibility for months of heat and failed climate control, even though that’s part of what you pay for ?? They can lock you out after just a few days ?? They can auction your stuff quickly ?? You can’t take them to court (forced arbitration) ?? You lose every protection they lose none ?? They built the contract to protect THEM, not you So while the building was basically unsecured, overheated, and wide open to bugs and animals… they were still hiking my rate like nothing was wrong. I’m sharing this because this transition to new management has turned what used to be a decent storage facility into a predatory business model, and I don’t want another military family or local resident getting blindsided. If you’re considering renting here, PLEASE read every inch of the contract. The recent reviews don’t reflect how often the doors are broken, the ongoing heat issues, the pests, or the nonstop rate hikes that long term renters have dealt with. I truly wouldn’t wish this mess on anyone. ... Read more

I had an outstanding experience with Free Up Storage, where I stored my items for three years. From the moment I signed up, I was impressed by their professionalism, cleanliness, and security. The process of renting a unit was smooth, with clear communication and helpful staff ready to assist with any questions. The facility is well-maintained, and I always felt confident that my belongings were safe. The security features, including 24/7 surveillance and controlled access, provided peace of mind throughout my time as a customer. I appreciated how clean and organized the entire facility was every time I visited. Another significant aspect was the ease of access to my unit. Whenever I needed to retrieve something or check on my items, the process was quick and hassle-free. The staff was always courteous and ready to assist, which made a real difference in the overall experience. Despite storing my items for three years, everything was in excellent condition when I finally removed them. No signs of moisture, pests, or damage it was just as I left all my valuable items. The pricing is also competitive, and I felt I received great value for the quality of service. I highly recommend Free Up Storage if you want a reliable, secure, and customer-friendly storage facility! Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
