The on-site manager at Storage Star self-storage on Old SewardHwy was very friendly and informative. I have an interior unit that is very accessible with strong lighting and a large cart to move items from the entry door to my unit. The location of Storage Star is very convenient to Southside neighborhoods along a major traffic artery. Rates are very reasonable. Highly recommend. ... Read more

So far everything seems ok. The only negative comment is that I went to Storage Star's other location at 225 Boniface Parkway, Anchorage, Ak. 99504. I went there because I had to to rent a storage unit at the 11711 Old Seward location, and no one was at that location, so I had to drive to 225 Boniface Parkway location to rent. The negative is that I smelled cigarette smoke in the office- very strong. My understanding is that the city of Anchorage has a No Smoking ordinance in Anchorage area businesses. It is also a problem for me, as I do have asthma, and it had an effect on my breathing, when I was in there signing up to rent a storage unit. ... Read more

I started renting from this facility in 2016 when it was Top Shelf. They were top-notch in their services & pricing, giving you a month free if you purchased a full year in advance. This was great. And, someone was always there running the facility, making sure the facility was clean, working properly and secure. It was very secure, with coded security gates and locked doors for inside storage units. However, this all changed when it was bought by Storage Star. After 1 year, the facility went down hill, in all regards. First, no more discount for purchasing a year in advance. Second, a HUGE price increase and, if you did purchase a year in advance but decided to move out of your unit early, there are no refunds, even if you move out 2 months before your renewal date. Third, the facility is no longer staffed every day. It was stated, since this facility was in a “Good” part of town, there was no need to have someone there every day. Um, I guess criminals don’t go to the “Good” part of town to steal!! Actually, not being staffed every day might not have been an issue, except for the fact that the security also went down hill. This is issue four! Multiple times, the security gate was not working properly and was left up & open. And, all the locked doors for the inside units, had the locks removed because apparently, too many people were losing their keys!! Um, so charge them for new keys and at some point they will stop losing keys when they have to keep paying for them. DUH! But no, now we all suffer because people forget their keys. So, with the security gate not working on multiple occasions, no locked doors and no staff there daily (I believe someone is there only Tuesdsys & Fridays), anyone can walk in, use bolt cutters and steal whatever they wish. Great plan! And, the kicker, issue five, there is a posted sign stating there is no staff except on Tuesday’s & Fridays. Um, WHAT!! Someone can read the sign and come back any of the other 5 days of the week, when the gate is not working and pretty much have the run of the place. The last and final thing, yup, issues six, the facility was just filthy! It was not swept or picked up and this was sad, as it used to be a very clean place. It’s obvious the care has gone way down and it’s like a “slum-lord”, just taking your money, massive rate increase by the way, with little to no effort put back into the facility. I’ve moved my stuff out, and did not get a refund for the 2 months left on my year, which I paid in advance for. I will never use this company again and am encouraging people I meet who are looking for a storage facility, to go elsewhere. I know of at least a hand full of other people who are moving out as well and have had the same exact experience. Very sad. Beware! ... Read more

I feel so lucky to have found this place. Outside of the many great qualities that this storage space has to offer, it is especially such a pleasurable experience working w/ the manager. She always goes out of her way to help when I'm in need. The fact that she runs front desk, does all of the billing, does all of the cleaning of the location, AND takes the time to make my experience enjoyable blows me away. Awesome lady, awesome place. I have been a tenant of storage star for quiet a while now and wanted to take the time to mention that. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Storage Star - 11711 Old Seward Hwy include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Storage Star - 11711 Old Seward Hwy start from $192 and can go up to $1,005 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
