Nice, quiet freedom
I’ve lived here for 11 months, almost. The staff has been so amazing; they love their jobs, and they love to make everyone feel at home. They are so professional, and efficient that there’s never a worry about living here. The parking is, unfortunately, not the best. However, the location and the proximity to public transportation, resources of every sort, and Detroit’s nightlife, cannot be matched. The apartments are cozy, and the view is wonderful, if you love the city- obviously! PS I love the city, and I love living here!
Great Midtown Choice
The Freelon Sugar Hill Apartment building is conveniently located adjacent to the Midtown medical campus. The East side of the building looks out to the VA Medical Center which is a gorgeous green building. Despite being located next to a medical campus, it is surprisingly quiet. Much quieter than my previous two apartments. I have yet to hear an ambulance siren or any loud noise. John R is strangely a quiet and peaceful road in central Midtown. The parking garage and residential rate ($95/month) was a big selling feature for me. Many other apartment buildings do not offer covered parking. Even uncovered parking rates were around $150/month. As I am a student, I would have also had to pay for student parking on campus at these other locations. Because the Freelon is adjacent to my campus, I can get away with just keeping my car at the Freelon garage. My ONLY complaint is the garage does not have a direct attachment to the building, not sure what the architects/engineers were thinking with that one. . . so you have to walk out of the garage and back into the building, other than that it's nice. The gym at the Freelon is small but it does have a full set of dumbbells, a cable cross with pull up bar and different attachments, in addition to some cardio machines. Overall, not a bad setup for an apartment gym. As far as price range, the Freelon offers a lot of quality for the price. I toured many Midtown apartments and found similar price ranges ($1400-1700), yet, some of the other apartments were nowhere near as nice as the Freelon. As it is a newly constructed building, everything feels fresh and modern. The in-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, nice kitchen appliances, and nice bathroom all were important selling points for me. There are two elevators that are both very quick so you are hardly ever waiting. Lastly, the leasing agent (Deborah) and the property manager (Natasha) are both very nice and super helpful in the process of moving in and living here!
