The old adage about real estate is that the three most important factors are location, location, and location. The Uptown has perhaps the best location in Bath: across the street from the beautiful 1887 Patton Free Library and Library Park, with open space, a pond, and free band concerts in the gazebo. Around the corner is Front Street, with a full service grocery store, Reny's Department Store, a pharmacy, restaurants and coffee shops, banks, and many other shops. The Uptown was named for a movie theater of that name that stood on the site in the 1940s and 50s. It includes 60 apartments in three interconnected buildings. The Moses Block at 24 Summer Street (corner of Front and Summer), the city's original 1893 YMCA building, has 10 flats. The adjoining 1893 Columbia Block, originally a theater and later a dance hall, has four townhouse-style units. And 26 Summer Street, built by The Szanton Company in 2023-24, and physically connected to the two historic buildings by a glass and steel connector, has 46 apartments. The Uptown features a community room and fitness center in the old YMCA's original gym; communal roof deck on 26 Summer with beautiful views of the city and the Kennebec River; off-street parking for most units; and on-site management and resident services. Residency is age-restricted to those 55 or greater.
