Hygge

In three years here the property management team has changed hands from competent to neglectful. Over a week without hot water in the dead of winter, no reduction in rent/utilities (except for a few select individuals). And also very limited communication regarding the situation. Most recently the pipe associated with the sprinkler system burst, water drained down the elevator which is now out of service for at least two months. Super convenient living on the sixth floor. Again, no offer for reduced rent. Meanwhile, literally across the street, lives a building where the property manager lives on sight instead of the two managing this property that drop by once or twice a week for a few hours here and there. And for about $80 a month more could have a game room, a rooftop lounge, a business center, a gym. When that property's garage was stuck open, they hired security at no additional cost to tenants. When that issue was brought up when the same thing happened at Hygge, what was the response from management? They'd have to charge us more to secure the building. This place is a concrete trash bin. I can't wait to end my lease.

Just a really great place to live, convenient and affordable.

The property has steadily gone downhill over the last 6 months. The 6th floor balcony was inaccessible for most of the summer. The trash room is often overflowing with garbage left out of the containers. The dog disposal is often left overflowing, creating a stench. Most recently the hot water has been inoperable since Friday (5 days as of today). The management company does not answer emails.

Everyone who works maintenance and staff is phenomenal. The value of the space is great, and the location makes it easy for my partner and I to get to and from our jobs. It's a lil noisy, as the front doors for each apartment slam quite loudly, but that's nothing compared to our previous location! Overall a great deal!

The main reason that I looked at Hygge was because I work right down the street at KATU 2 News. That said, I was pleasantly surprised after taking my tour. The layout of the apartments is top notch, resulting in my little studio apartment still feeling comfortable. The building was constructed well with quality materials and a modern design. In terms of amenities, not a lot going on outside of a bike room and Nova Coffee on the first floor. There is very little on-site parking available and it's quite expensive to rent a spot. There's also not a lot in the immediate vicinity in terms of food, drink, or entertainment. That said, it's a quiet and comfy place to live, so if you're like me and don't need a ton of frills, Hygge can work great. The office and maintenance are very responsive. I recommend it, even if rent is a bit high, but it's Portland, what do you expect?
