Noisiest Building Ever?
Usually I think of older buildings as being solid and well built but, I think this building is a definite exception. I can hear my neighbour's upstairs, upstairs and across the hall, across the hall, and right next door on any given day. Why the owners don't carpet the units is beyond me. If you want to provide a premium experience, you would have to consider noise and ways to mitigate it. They call this a "luxury rental" building but, I don't think they really grasp what that means. As I write this I can hear the new dog on 15 barking. That's two floors up. In our last building, the owners would install acoustic drywall every time they reno'd a unit. It was great! Noises became less and less gradually. Also, noise complaints here seem to go unacknowledged. Between the filthy common areas, noise, and general aged appearance, this is NOT a luxury rental. It's making me miss my old home to be honest.
So Many Issues
Here is a current list of issues. Just in our unit. -A/C works some days and not others. -Bathroom ceiling paint is peeling (October 2022) -Front door exterior light hasn't worked since some time last year. -Kitchen stove power needs to be moved so that the stove can be properly positioned against the wall. I could go on about the common areas, noise, and parking areas.
Some Good, Some Bad
We've lived here for about 16 months. We hear most conversations from our upstairs neighbour. When she has guests and keeps her shoes on, or her guests do, it sounds like someone is hammering on the floor. We hear every conversation in the laundry room next door. The walls and floors in here reverberate unlike anything I've ever heard before. The hallway reeks of second hand smoke, often the smell comes in under the front door. Also, sometimes you get a whiff of weed as you walk past the "guest suite". It's just plain smelly. Thankfully they've eliminated the recycling bins on each floor. The smell of unwashed salmon tins was getting out of control. The management and maintenance team have been really great. Most issues, other than smoke and noise, are addressed reasonably quickly despite the supply chain delays we're all experiencing. Communication could be improved though. You can't beat the location. So I hope the new owners have big plans for this place and I hope we stick around to see them.
