My kitchen water is coming out cloudy, the rent is challenging to pay, and my tub continues to clog

This is a wonderful building in which to live. Living in beautiful Prospect Park South with incredible green space and the B/Q around the corner can't be beat. Also, it is a very friendly building that is far more of a community than anywhere I've ever lived. Many residents have lived here for decades and know each other well. We've lived here for 5 years, and intend to stay as long as we live in NYC. The building itself is okay – it's well-maintained and has a solid super. Our apartment has a good share of cheapie features (contact paper covering the bathroom vanity, poorly applied peel & stick kitchen floor tiles) and weird problems, but that's NYC for you. We have a ton of space for the price (largely because previous occupants were here for 12 years). The street is as quiet as you can find in NYC. Our neighbors are reasonably quiet, though it's definitely not silent. One warning is that we have had our water tested, and there is lead in it. I don't know how prevalent this is in NYC, but my guess is many pre-war buildings in NYC are in the same situation.

Been at the Buckingham for 10 years. The neighborhood is really lovely and very convenient - the building is right on the BQ line, the FG is a short bus ride or walking distance - and it’s a beautiful walking neighborhood. Buses are also frequent day and night. The building’s a mix of young professionals, artists, musicians, families and really knowledgeable older residents. There’s a kind of Mayberry / Hitchcock Rear Window vibe where you know your neighbors and lots of films and shows like Flatbush Misdemeanors are filmed in the neighborhood. Also nice having Prospect Park just blocks away and Coney Island just a 20 minute subway ride away. There are the usual problems of a pre-war building but the few times I’ve needed maintenance or help it’s been handled quickly by the on-site super. The apartments are massive, even the studios, with terrific old school details like hardwood floors. The landlord experience has been the complete opposite of what I always expected (feared) from a NYC rental experience - kind, patient, helpful. Well worth the wait if you can get on the list.
