The property has a lot of potential if management would do the bare minimum. The hallway resembles an abandoned building. Tons of unused space that could be used for storage. Giant back yard that is just been a dump for years. Porter and Super are excellent.

I have lived here 30 years. infrastructure has been improved, i dont worry that the 135 year building will collapse. It does have a nice Victorian era charm so i dont expect anything high tech, just let it be clean. But repairs to the building over the last few years have been left unfinished and public areas look pretty shoddy. Would be nice if these were completed and make the hallways and stairwells look as nice as the renovated apartments. The backyard, once filled with gorgeous trees and open to tenants is now locked off and just a field of dirt in winter or weeds in summer. Id suggest they replant some trees and do some minimal landscaping, like plant grass, or let the tenants have a shared garden. Having a personal relationship with the owner and management is no longer a thing. Now its just a website and mysterious phone support, likely to be replaced with an AI in the near future I'm sure. The supers and maintenance staff are typically really friendly but just when you get to know them they get replaced with new staff. Personally i love my apt but compared to the rest of the neighborhood, i think Akelius could do better if it werent such an uncaring profit oriented faceless corporation. Oh and theres no Verizon FIOS connection to the building, which i cant prove is due to a now illegal practice of locking in an exclusive deal between Spectrum and the building owners, but it has that smell about it. A choice would be nice.

Its a beautiful home in a great location.

I've greatly enjoyed living at 413 14th st in Brooklyn mainly because of the proximity to the park, YMCA, and quiet neighborhood. The common areas need a facelift, however, the unit itself is beautiful. I'll be renewing my lease for the 3rd time this year.
