Big Adjustment

Burnt Oaks apartments in North Beach is a viable option for people looking for an apartment near the Bay in a cute town. The rent was reasonable - not too expensive but not too cheap either. For us, it was a big adjustment as we sold our house and needed a place to live until we were able to move to our new house. Our *tiny* one bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor overlooked the parking lot. The stairwell walls and stairs were dingy and definitely needed paint. The apartment itself is small, especially after coming from a 3 bedroom, 4 bath house. The washer and dryer were in the bathroom (stacked, in a closet) and barely worked. The dishwasher in the *tiny* kitchen worked fine, but was super loud. The kitchen has no microwave, minimal cabinet space, and almost no counter space. The only amenity is a gym, which only had one treadmill and some weights and one piece of gym equipment. Plus some yoga balls - and it did have a tv, which was nice. You won't necessarily get a parking space close to your apartment (read: hauling groceries upstairs in the heat and/or rain = not much fun). The office staff were responsive and helpful. Neighbors will report you for "infractions" (we thought you could smoke in the grassy common areas while taking our dogs out - not true; you can only smoke in the parking lot) and we received a warning that we could be asked to leave if it happened again. Also, there are feral cats EVERYWHERE and some residents feed them. If you're allergic to cats (I am), this is kind of a problem. All in all, this was a really tough adjustment for us. I felt claustrophobic in the apartment. Keep in mind, other people who are used to apartment living, I think, would fare much better than I did. The maintenance staff responds quickly to requests and were very pleasant.
