My wife and I got a 12 month lease for a 1 bedroom apartment at East Chase. It was our first apartment, and it was the best deal we could find at the time. We enjoyed living at East Chase, but did not like the way the apartment community is managed. The buildings are old (roughly the 1980s or 1990s construction), appliances are outdated (Hotpoint from the 1990’s in the non-updated units), and the layout of the apartment made the space feel much smaller than the square footage on the advertisement. When we moved in, the apartment had a musty smell that took months to dissipate, even after we cleaned the carpets ourselves. Mold was a recurring problem due to moisture build-up around the windows. The leasing office was not the best with communication. We would receive paper notices letting us know pest control, dryer vent cleaners, etc would be entering our apartment within 24 hours, within an 8 hour timeframe. We didn’t appreciate the short notice. When the subcontractors arrived, they did little to nothing. The biggest stain on our experience was after move out. We followed all the instructions in the move out packet, spent the weekend deep cleaning our entire unit, and had the known maintenance concerns addressed before handing over the keys. After paying the final month’s rent and utilities, the apartment sent me a bill saying we owe, even after they cashed in our security deposit. We were charged to resurface the bathtub. I’ve never heard of ordinary wear and tear requiring a bathtub to be resurfaced with only 2 people living in the unit for 1 year. I debated this with the leasing office, and they refused to adjust the charges. To me, this is a cash-grabbing move by the leasing office/management to make a tenant pay more for ordinary wear and tear. In the end, we will pay what is owed because if we refuse the bill will be turned over to a collection agency (as stated in the final bill). To me, East Chase is at the bottom end of the apartment spectrum.
I have been very happy here, and all repares have been done in a very timely manner.
