Pittsburgh’s average rent reached $1,271 in April, after a 0.5% increase since last year. A major northeastern job hub with a 49% renter share, Pittsburgh is a diverse and vibrant place to live in, with apartment rents below the national average of $1,417.
The average rent for an apartment in Pittsburgh increased slower than in other surrounding areas, such as Cranberry Township ($1,385), where prices saw a 5.2% rise since last year. Meanwhile, apartment rates in Bethel Park increased by 1.2%, reaching an $1,125 average.
What it costs to rent in the largest renter hubs in the Pittsburgh area
Slippery Rock, the city with the largest renter share (60%) in the Pittsburgh area, has a $1,481 average rent, after a 1% annual increase. Pittsburgh comes in second, followed by Greensburg (44%), where apartment rents increased by 6.2% since last year, reaching $771.
Coraopolis has the fourth largest renter share (43%), with apartments going for $1,151 after a 0.8% yearly increase. Last but not least, Canonsburg's 37% share of renters places it fifth among the area’s renter hubs. The city’s average rent reached $1,237 in April, going up by 1% in the past year.
The priciest and cheapest places for renters in the Pittsburgh area
Slippery Rock is the priciest city for renters in the Pittsburgh area, with apartments renting for $1,481 per month. Cranberry Township’s $1,385 rate is the second most expensive, while apartments in Pittsburgh ($1,271) come in third.
For renters in search of budget-friendly apartments, Greensburg's $771 average rent is the cheapest in the Pittsburgh area, followed by Monroeville's $997 rate. Allison Park rentals are the third least pricey on the list, with a $1,064 average rent as of April.

Among Pittsburgh's most popular renter ZIP codes, 15213 has a $1,468 average rent, above the city average ($1,271). At the same time, rentals in ZIP 15222 go for $1,725, while prices in ZIP 15237 circle around $1,064. Apartment rents in ZIP 15220 clock in at around $1,109, lower than the Pittsburgh average, while rates in ZIP 15219 average at $1,501.
