MHS is a great school. The principal and staff have the right idea...they want to teach children and help them excel. The teachers push the kids to learn. The TEACH them how to be students. The study habits that my freshman daughter has already learned, I know will allow her to succeed in the future as she does now. There is no molly coddling...do the work expected to get the grade expected. You can prepare yourself for college, trade school or whatever your calling. The honors and AP (college credit) classes are challenging and informative. I was so disappointed to see the review from the family that moved to VA. Maybe their children were overly challenged, I don't know, but from reading the parent reviews of the school that she refers to, six of the first seven don't have anything good to say about BHS. I loved my high school. I had a blast. I graduated in the top 10 of my class. I wasn't challenged and didn't learn how to study or be a good student. It took it's toll on my in college. MHS is guiding my children onward and upward. They love their school too, but I have a feeling, when they get to college with skills that MHS taught, they will love it even more!UPDATE: My oldest daughter is now a freshman at a highly regarded university in Washington DC. The education and skills that she acquired at MHS helped her land a wonderful academic scholarship. More importantly, she learned the skills that enable her to excel in her course-load and at the same time, be a thriving member of the university community.

If your child is an average student then they are forgotten. It seems the school only cares about the AP students. They carry the school in regard to test scores. The math teachers my child has had have been horrific. I had to hire tutors. Many teachers never return phone calls or even come to meetings about the students. Not impressed....

My daughter is in 9th grade this year - so far, so good! We have been impressed with the teachers she has, all seem to be very enthusiastic about their subjects. The curriculum is challenging and she has made great strides for 3 years ago when we had to homeschool her because she cold not sit in a classroom all day! We were concerned about the large size of this school compared with her previous schools - the administration seems to do a great job managing the number of students while still keeping class sizes fairly small.

I have been to every school in Morgantown and MHS is by far the best! The teachers are so nice and actually try to help you, the students are nice, and the sports teams are terrific. The teachers here make me WANT to learn on my own. They come up with fun ways to do things, and take time to help you understand.

Both of my kids, who are now in college, went to MHS. We recently moved to Virginia. The schools here are so much better than the schools in Morgantown, therefore I do not understand how an amazing school like battlefield high in Haymarket is a 7, when MHS is a 10! The teachers are so much better here and the standards are much higher so it's hard for me to have much confidence in this rating system?? One of my children, who is an honors student, attended high school for a short time here in VA and said there was no comparison, MHS was so much worse? Morgantown is a great place, but MHS is not a "ten". There are lots of older teachers who can't be fired and aren't really serving the students well and there are plenty of students who are completely disinterested in academics. If your child is in AP classes, they can get a decent education here, but MHS is not a "10".
