"I am the parent of a 4th grade student at Hartland South. My son has been enrolled in the ""Virtual Parent Digital Classroom"" since it became available when he was in 2nd grade. We have had a wonderful experience with this program. I absolutely love the focus on teaching with technology. I am amazed at what my son has learned! The apps they use, aid in teaching math, history, writing, reading, science - all the core subjects but teach the material in a way that is fun and engaging! In addition the use of technology gives me a window into his day, which I really love! Classmates and teachers post photos/videos of what they are learning about throughout the day which is a wonderful reference when we have questions about homework & a great reminder about upcoming tests, special days, etc. I also love that the teachers are accessible throughout the day/evening via email. If I have a question, I usually get a response within an hour, if not sooner! I also feel much more connected to the other parents in this classroom because of the tech we all use together! For that reason, I think this would be a really great option for families moving into our district!"

I have been extremely impressed with the way Hartland-Lakeside handles allergies. Our son has severe allergies to both peanuts/tree nuts and fish/shellfish. It gives me GREAT comfort to know that our school has a nut policy in place. Our district nurse is very knowledgeable and supportive. The teachers and staff are trained to identify allergic reactions and use epi-pens. This is NOT the case at other schools in Hartland. I can't tell you what a relief it is to know that my child is in such good hands!!

My school is Hartland South elementary. Its an awesome school. We came from out of state and could only find good things about Elmbrook School District. We got stuck there a yr and even their Superintendant says they've been in declining enrollment for 10 yrs. I toured every elementary between Brookfield and Oconomowoc. I used to work at Hewlett-Packard as an IT Engineer....this school teaches much in the same vein as how people work. Less about warming a seat for 8 hrs in lecture and more about engaging the students. This school is part of the feeder schools to the top rated high school in the state. Plus there are 2 major arterial roads to get ya to Milwaukee or Madison fast. My wife drive is tghe same from Hartland as it was from Brookfield and geographically we are 15 mins west of there. Its in the middle of a ton lakes so they call it lake country. SO if you're looking for a school in the Milwaukee Metro area. I STRONGLY suggest looking at the schools in this area. Apple flies out execs for the last three years because the top notch results the school gets. I see teachers and principals from school in the region tour the school ALL the time.

There are times when special needs children are distracting for the other children in their classrooms. I have seen classrooms come to a screeching halt for long periods of time while the Aides and the teachers deal with the special needs child. That does not mean those children don't deserve to be in education but so often, I have heard parents of special needs children who seem to feel that their children should be educated in such a way that is detrimental to the educational opportunities of the differently abled children in their environment.I have heard ignorant remarks and read some here but some people have witnessed inclusion that does not work for the classroom experience, as a whole, the children who often suffer are the ones with no IEPs who just need consistent, managed classrooms without a plethora of distractions. It seems that those parents need to stand up and try to find a way to advocate for them as well. Every child needs to have their educational needs met in the best way possible and sometimes, it feels like some legitimate concerns are being dismissed, in discussions by blanketing all people with differing concerns as ignorant.

While changes have been made, the administration continues to baffle us with its spending and mismanagement. That and the restructuring was not great for everyone, despite the claims from sine ib this board. The move toward iPads in the classroom just seem to ensure that kids will become more dependent on digital devices and addicted to screens.
