In my family four very different students graduated from HUHS with scholarships and now have their masters or are working on them. This is a result of the diversity and support they received growing up in Hartford and HUHS.

Hartford is a wonderful place to raise a family. However, our experience with HUHS was less than positive. The counselor was terrible and not supportive, claiming 400 students was too much for her. Some of the teachers had a political agenda. We had to monitor how grades were derived, as often projects were missed and not calculated (oops!)... The choral music program was fabulous though! The school cares about the full experience and has a balanced curriculum to meet all interest levels. Parental involvement is essential. Great town and great kids!

"If I could give it no stars I would. I've heard of and seen multiple students maybe IN THE HUNDREDS transfer to either Germantown or Slinger because HUHS (1) doesn't offer a good academic program at all. (2) I am even great at the sport I play but couldn't play because my academics couldn't hold up long enough in order for me to play. As every school has, HUHS requires you to have certain grades to play and since HUHS doesn't have a good academic program, athletes that are the LeBron of their sport won't play for the school and have a chance at a scholarship. Also, the ""guidance counselors"" aren't any help at all. Might as well not even have them because they lack knowledge of anything that goes on within this school and they appear like they are in a twilight all the time. Teachers don't care about your success they only care about the sport you play and if you can play because of your eligibility. Sometimes, if you're lucky, they will go out of their way to make sure you don't get a passing grade. The favoritism is also unbelievable. I don't have the slightest clue as to how this school is First Class or how it has 9 stars because HUHS is complete garbage."

I'm a mother of two students who have graduated from HUHS and have attended and graduated a 4 year college. Both were successful in high school and college. Making the Deans list and holding GPA around 3.8 4.0. I'm so proud of both of them as it has been many years since they have graduated from HUHS. My son Joe has made a career in LA in editing and producing tv shows. My daughter is in health and human services.Music and arts have enriched in there lives as adults today. I went to a concert with a friend of mine at the middle school. Bringing back memories to the concerts I have attended for my kids I can't say enough about the talent these programs have brought out in these kids and the hard work it took for both teachers and students. I truley enjoyed going and would like to see these programs stay in our schools. Letting our future generations be who they need to be its all up to them! It's all in the good parenting, good teachers, good schools, that make a new generation of young adults seem to find good work, successful lives all because they took education very seriously!! Thank you for letting me share this story, there are so very few with happy endings. Mrs. Chitel
