Elkhorn Area High School Ratings & Reviews
The amount of bullying and unprofessionalism in this school is ridiculous. As a student, one of which does not have many friends nor teachers I strongly can relate to, I feel like my opinion isn't swayed and should be taken into a third person persective, because that's how I feel. Most of the school, at one point they even had the statistics in their front lobby, is 95+% white. Why? Probably because if you look closely in the hallways, or the bathrooms, or even the bricks that make up the school you will probably find racial slurs and things of the like. That is, before they paint over it and pretend that nothing happened. The child, if bothered to be found, will get a minor punishment. Also, a student who I was sort-of friends with acted out a lot. The teachers immediately hated him because of his reputation and actions, which, I might say is only human nature. However, teachers should have considered if he was acting that way for a reason. I had to go to guidance myself and say my concerns because the teacher just ignored the situation. The teachers see everything but comment on nothing. The teachers who do comment get bullied by the students and the teachers shy away. That's the equivalent to a child talking back to their parent and their parent shying away. The discipline in this school is wrong. They go after the easy targets just because they're submissive and then pat themselves on the back for a good days work. Also, the teachers have actually argued with students on politics before. It wasn't even civil! The lack acceptance is potent and needs to be addressed. I realize that now they have anti-bullying discussions every week during their homeroom, but are going about it the wrong way. "13 reasons why" on Netflix made more of an impact on the students than a years full of google presentations ever would - despite it's way of going about things. Don't get me started on their "diversity club" as well! That club, which I was a part of during my freshman year is a joke. It's a bunch of liberal kids with a ridiculously liberal teacher bullying the conservative kids and claim that they're "doing justice". "Open Minds, Open Doors" isn't so open minded when you disagree with them. Overall, Elkhorn High School is a bad idea if you want to send your child here. Take my word for it because I am a student forced to attend here; I've seen things first hand.
Test scores are more important than the students. If your child doesn't score an 18 or higher on the ACT Aspire test as an incoming freshman, you have failed as a parent. At least that's the message parents' get.
Elkhorn Area High School has many opportunities for students! Teachers go above and beyond for students!
EAHS has wonderful teachers and principals who understand each child's goals are unique. They skillfully guide the students towards being the best they can be!
I am a recent graduate of EAHS, and while it is no Milwaukee, there is much room for improvement. The biggest problem there is the teachers/administration themselves. They do indeed "gang up" on kids as mentioned in another review, and base any disciplinary actions off of either what crowd said student is in, or whether they like the kid or not. There is a HUGE amount of bullying at this school, but again, the district does very little about it unless you are a "bad kid". It is a shame that these people's actions tend to overshadow the few good people that do attend or work there. Although this may have changed since I graduated, I also want to say that there needs to be more of a variety of extracurricular offerings throughout the year, and to work on including everyone who does decide to join a club or sports team. I do want to praise the track team for being excellent in terms of leadership and generating an ideal team bond. I was definitely sad to leave that behind. And academically, it's pretty good :) In conclusion, it is a small town, and very few really like do high school, but EAHS really needs to do more to escape that "small town mentality" and be professional.
