My children attended Mt. View High School. They received a very good education. Challenging courses are available as is running start (tuition-free college) for qualifying students. Neither of my children needed remedial education upon entering college, and both successfully completed their college program with a high-level of success. To reach this goal, a value for education and reasonable encouragement is necessary from the parent, student, teachers, and principal.

With so many schools forced to provide remedial programs for struggling schools (which Mt. View does), sometimes it means cuts to programs that help top students...not at Mt. View! There are so many Advanced Placement classes-in nearly every offering. The teachers are skilled at not just teaching to the AP tests, but really immersing the students in the subject(s). My kids will be so prepared for college (both in knowledge, rigor and credits).

I'm a parent of 2 that have attended or are attending Mountain View High School. As you know, all kids are different & that can make education a challenge(parenting too for that matter!)I have 1 child that was your "model" student.Focused, strong work ethic & desire to make Honor roll each qtr.Had the full HS experience.Graduated this yr from a top Univ.I have another child, who is completely opposite.Doesn't care about honor roll.May do sports, maybe not.Has trouble focusing & is not your model student. The reason I'm telling you this is that both my children rec'd quality education & benefitted from being @ MTN VIEW HS. Main Reason? The Associate Principal. She's a true asset to the school, the community & the parents. She makes you feel like your child is the only child @ the school. She works hard to make sure that their needs are met.Kids like my 2nd often get lost in the system, get "labeled" & for some who don't have the care &concern of someone like the Assoc. Principal, quit school or "just make it" to graduation by teachers moving them thru the system. You get 1 chance to get it right w/your kids.I'd put them here again.Safe envir.Caring staff.Broad Class choices.Very positive exp

Frankly, I did not enjoy Mt. View High that much. First off, the school had many problems with teachers that were anywhere from inexpirienced to just plain rude to the students (The machining and welding teacher was GREAT at the later). Secondly, the staff at the school were not trustworthy, as they had openly lied to my face multiple times, and when called out on it, punished me by suspension, detention or other means. Thirdly, the students themselves were rather mean and discriminatory, extremely rude to me and other students, as well as very homophobic (I'm a gay student with gender identity issues) and frequently called me various unpleasant names in front of the teachers, many of whom did absolutely nothing to intervene. But this is not to say that it's a bad school, not at all. It has MANY good things about it, like the well-equipped machine shop, the friendly staff and the fun activities students get to perform in the classes. overall, I give this school an average rating. This place needs improvement, and the staff needs to learn what truancy laws are and what is written in them, but overall it is a decent school.
