I am a parent of two Evergreen students and my wife and I could not be happier. We have been at the school for 8 years and each year has been amazing. Both of my children are thriving at this highly capable school and the faculty is engaged in their growth and development. The teachers understand exactly where each student is at and are able to meet their needs. Honestly, it's a fantastic place to raise our K-8 kids. The student body is great with caring, curious learners that genuinely support each other. The parent community is very strong and there are events throughout the year outside of school set up just for the parents. One of the most impressive things about the Evergreen School is how dedicated they are to the social/emotion growth of our children. This is a school for highly capable children with lots of integrated STEM projects but the finer points of leadership and community are embedded in the course work. This is a school where my children thrive and can be their best selves. I would recommend the Evergreen School to my closest friends and family.

If you are considering this school ask yourself if you want your children in a school where bullied kids end up having to leave it while bullies continue to reign. My oldest was one of the bullied ones for three years. We talked to the school all the time and they did nothing. Not only that, they raised questions about our child’s behavior (I guess when a kid gets bullied he or she needs to let the bully do his/her thing and not react to it). The counselor and the school leadership are a disgrace. The best thing we ever did was to take our children out of that school. I only regret not having done that way earlier.By the way, I am an engineer and I am not impressed with their math curriculum (at least not in the earlier years).

We had our kids at Evergreen for four years (2011-15). Most of the teachers were top notch, the curriculum was great, and the campus was very open and almost like a little college. We made a lot of great parent friendships as well. Ms. Judith, Kathleen, and Debra in PS, PK, and 1st grade were absolutely awesome and did an amazing job with our boys. The school also has great financial resources with very generous families supporting continued investment in the physical plant and new programs. One thing we wished were different might have been the level of competition between the kids to be first or best at everything and the impact that started to have on our oldest (who was beginning to only want to pursue things where he could be #1). I don't think the school encourages that (on the contrary, I think they encourage all the kids to always try) but it could be the natural dynamic of any school that only has gifted children. Some of our friends' kids encountered challenges around bullying; it wasn't rampant though and could have been the reality of how kids interact at that age. A previous reviewer's "Lord of the Flies" reference might have some truth to it. Our biggest advice is to be aware of the sibling admissions policy. Our youngest was admitted to and attended Evergreen PS or PK and was doing great according to all the teacher evaluations. However, after two attempts, his top IQ score during PK year was in the 90th percentile and as such was short of the 95th percentile cutoff. We were then told he could not continue to Kindergarten (even though the PK teacher strongly recommended he advance to Kindergarten). It made for a really stressful and emotional year for us and while we respect the School's right to set these kinds of policies, it seemed at odds with the values of community, inclusion, and social and emotional intelligence -- especially since the testing data was very inconsistent and in the gray area. All of that said, we really loved our first 3 years at the School so had we been able to stay, we probably would have for a few more years.

Our son is in middle school at Evergreen and we have been very pleased with the new administrators and teachers at Evergreen. The direction that the school is taking currently builds on the strengths of the past and seeks to improve on any weaknesses - whether real or perceived. We are very pleased with the academics, as well as the social and emotional component at the school. The diversity challenges of the past within the parent community (not the school) seem to have improved dramatically within recent years. We highly recommend the Evergreen School for the highly capable student.

My son has been at Evergreen since kindergarten, and I have to say that despite the many changes that have occurred in the last few years it has all been for the greater good. We now have a fantastic new school head, a wonderful new primary division head, new teachers that have replaced those who were ready to retire, and overall, a new, positive energy that translates to the kids. My son's intellectual growth has been stimulated, he is learning how to learn, how to ask questions, how to think critically, but as important, his social and emotional growth has been nurtured. I have to say, that with a couple of exceptions, the kids are kind, warm-hearted and accepting. I really think it's due to the emphasis placed on empathy and awareness of the many differences among families. If you want a school where kids are taught how to think and how to become good, solid people, Evergreen is the place.
