Shorecrest High School Ratings & Reviews

I was happy with my first child but unfortunately have been disappointed with how my second child has been treated. They will be losing a smart, enthusiastic STEM student because of their lack of action to address mistreatment by staff toward my child. I don’t recommend this school for all kids.

We have two kids who are at or have gone through Shorecrest in recent years and third chiled on the rise. At every level with the Shoreline School District, since elementary, but especially at SC, we have been thoroughly impressed with every facet of the District; and with Shorecrest, from Lisa Gonzales, the principal, through to every teacher, staff member, counselor, and office personnel, we have been so pleased. The facility itself, an $80mm ground up new construction on the original site c. 2015, is amazing. The AP course selection has been terrific for our kids, who have taken Calc AB/BC (a UW course) their junior/senior years, and AP courses in English, Physics, Chem, and History. The diversity of the student body, both racial and socioeconomic, has been incredible. Sports, music, and other extracurricular programs are abundant (and are a reason we've chosen SC over some excellent private school options nearby). Are there issues? Sure. But these issues aren't unique to SC and I think Principal Gonzales and the staff do an amazing job with each challenge with which they are presented. I would give this place six stars if I could. Without hesitation, and wholeheartely, we would recommend this to anyone looking for an excellent high school for their children.

The school definitely has a high drug and alcohol usage among students. The school security is awful since students bring E-cigarettes, cigars, and bottles of alcohol into school so easily. There is a lot of school pride, and lots of inclusiveness. There is problems with students AND teachers. Hallways and classrooms do get out of control frequently. Students are normally respectful towards one another.

The Culinary Programs and Arts program are fantastic!!! The teachers and counselors care about students and make an outstanding effort to work with families, students, and staff so that ALL students can be successful in their pursuits for high school and higher education.

As a student with ADHD, depression, and an anxiety disorder, I have trouble with most schools and their methods of teaching and assigning work. Schools are required to offer help and accommodations for mental illness, but at Shorecrest you have to fight tooth and nail to get it, and even after doing that I wasn't given any help. My brother had dropped out because of this, while I'm struggling to get through a second senior year. In all, I'm extremely disappointed with the administration. The only upside is the great performing arts program, but that doesn't seem to be a high priority with the administration. Teachers tend to be hit or miss, with some amazing teachers and some absolutely terrible excuses for educations.
