The staff and even the classroom setting change every year forcing the kids to readjust year after year to the drastic changes. They do not hold themselves accountable for the fluctuations in the school and the impact it has on the kids, nor the dysfunctional, inconsistent, communication with children or parents. Staff targets certain kids. There are children every year that get booted "weeding out" by an irrational bar. Staff needs to be trained better. Very few staff are AMI-trained. The setting is too relaxed, letting the kids freely roam. My son is still struggling with certain subjects and is behind because of the laxed education. Most children aren't challenged by the program and many eventually leave. Parents aren't informed on where their child is on national level. After speaking with a parent that had their child in my son's class, they told me they had an evaluation done on her child after leaving the school and that he was 2 grades below what he should have been. We don't plan to attend this school anymore (he's been in it for years). I warn any parents seeking a true Montessori or even a decent education, you will be very disappointed. For those in the school currently. I highly recommend having your child's development evaluated based on the national level. It will speak for itself.

I also chose another school for my child. The teachers and administrators were uninvolved with just about everything going on with the school and children. In fact, communication at any level was not encouraged. The director and teacher made most of the parents I spoke with feel uninvited to discuss anything. I almost view this place now as a "daycare" - not a school. And the teachers are just biding time until they retire - one in particular. Such a disappointment that my child spent the 2 years here. If only I would have followed my instinct.

My child learned a ton, academically, at this school but there was a real culture of meanness (taunting, saying cruel things to each other like 'I hate you' and 'I'm going to kill you') among the children and the teacher and administrators brushed it off as typical four-year-old behavior. We knew this wasn't true and pulled our child out. The assistants were cold and uninvolved with the children in this classroom, though they were more involved in the other rooms, it seemed. In general, the administrators were unresponsive to our concerns. Very disappointing, given that Montessori is supposed to focus on peace and the development of community and social skills. I've heard better things about the Woodland Park branch. I was also disappointed that they spent so little time outside. If the assistants didn't feel like going out in the rain, the children stayed inside!

I pulled my child from NW Montessori. I was very uncomfortable with an assistant and did not fully trust the staff member. I decided to trust my instincts and move my child to a new school.
