I did not like my experience at Bryant. I was nervous even to raise my hand and I would cry because I felt like I was failing school. If you send your child to Bryant, you should consider sending them to a private middle school. That is the only reason why I feel smart.

My daughter attended Bryant for 3 years. She is mixed and was constantly bullied pushed to the back as far as academics and only learned to read after retaining a tutor over a summer. She was assaulted by another student, this was not addressed by the teacher, principal, etc. I had to call the police and make an assault report before anybody even took notice. We have since moved to Sandpoint Elementarty and my daughter has never been happier!!!! Bullying is not tolerated, racism, being left out, none of these behaviors can go on at Sandpoint.......

Well fell into this elementary school (my husband went to grad school at the UW, and we grabbed a house close by) without knowing much about it, and we feel so lucky that our children have benefited from this well-rounded educational experience. The yearly chess tournament is an annual highlight. Both science fairs are good, but the one for the upper grades is superior: all students work with a UW grad student as a science adviser. Thus, the displays are professional quality, and the young kids get exposure to real scientists working in the field. Additionally, many of the parents work at the U and come in to speak about their areas of expertise; certainly the proximity to the UW is a huge benefit, as it is often used as an enrichment resource for various units and subjects. The kindergarten curriculum is first-rate, especially with its emphasis on civics and government, which is topped off with the yearly field trip to meet the Mayor and speak with City Council. All of SPS elementary math is much improved thanks to the new Singapore-style curriculum chosen in 2015, and we've seen that reflected in our children's work. Math club and after-school language offerings round out our kids' education at Bryant.I'm very sorry to hear about the previous parent's bullying complaint. Bryant has a huge anti-bullying campaign, and stresses the inclusive 'Bryant Way' theme constantly, culminating with a year-end assembly that underscores it. I do know one child that left due to bullying this year, but Bryant was this child's 3rd or 4th elementary school due to this issue. My children have contended with (and probably reciprocated with) typical playground behavior, mainly 'who-likes-whom' childhood crush material. I don't think that's exclusive to Bryant--just a part of life. Overall, not sure you could find a better all around elementary school in Seattle. One of so many reasons families no longer flee to the suburbs, but instead are raising kids in our beautiful city again!

My kids were relentlessly picked on here. Bad behavior goes unchecked over and over. Aggressive bullying is a genuine problem. The three reviews before mine are heavy on the aesthetics, historic architecture, beautiful neighborhood and upscale homes. None of these things add up to a warm, safe place to learn. Kids shouldn't be afraid to go to school in the morning. As for academics, they are so far behind we had to work very hard to catch up upon leaving Bryant. The worst part is that no one here seems to care, or at least care about the right things. Noses in the air, and the kids mirror that behavior. Kids who repeatedly get physical need to get the BOOT. Social justice should not replace actual learning. Posing needs to take a back seat to parenting. You can do it, Bryant!

I visit loads of schools for work, and think Bryant is probably the crown jewel in the top notch NE Seattle public elementary cluster. The (fully-modernized) building is aesthetically beautiful, with 100-year-old classic 3-story brick architecture and giant, light-filled multi-pane windows right out of a picture book. But it's what's inside that matters most: excellent, devoted teachers, an advanced curriculum right out of the gate in kindergarten (Gallagher in particular prepares the kids for 5th grade rather than 1st), hard-working PTSA and more parent/grandparent involvement than they probably need! Our family has loved Gallagher, Chon, Richard, Koerner, Bernard, Matthias & Kereluck--all thoughtful, dedicated, instructors. Loads of after-school activities to choose from, too...chess? Tennis? Sewing? Cooking? And so many more. Wonderful community of kids, parents and teachers--I wouldn't want my children to go anywhere else.
