Everybody smile, but don't do nothing about any problems

When there are kids who don't respect anybody, the principal doesn't do anything about them. The other kids can't learn anything because some kids are shouting, telling the teachers to "F off", and breaking things. Teachers quit all the time.

My child has seen this last year and this year:#teachers calling to have a violent student removed from class, or to remove a student making hostile comments directed at the teachers or other students. No one answers the phone or picks up the student. If they do, the student is brought back to class within minutes. #teacher trying to separate students who are being disrupting. Student starts screaming and throwing a table, but refuses to leave class. The next day, the principal walks in to talk to the student in a quiet, friendly way. She then asks the teacher if she's sure she can't just let the student sit where she wants.#students Snapchatting dumb pranks in class. The next day, they mock the teacher for calling home about it. Nothing is done to punish students.#several teachers left last year. #I'm sending my child to a new school shortly, as soon as I make arrangements.

The teachers work very hard, but the superintendent's "discipline" policy keeps them from being able to do much. Her bizarre approach has resulted in chaos in her schools. She wants to "heal the trouble-makers", but all that happens, in EVERY CLASSROOM, is that many young children being exposed to classmates yelling, swearing, threatening the teacher, throwing large objects (chairs, computer monitors), destroying classrooms (including students' personal property and any projects, classwork, artwork on the walls), sometimes to the point that the entire class has to vacate the classroom and go to another location because nobody can control the student. This happens on a daily basis, resulting in the very trauma that she seeks to address. The offending children are back in school the next day. The Supt swears this is because she wants to address the poor soul's trauma. My child, a good student from a solid home, no longer wants to go to school. PTSD should not be a byproduct of attending school, and families should not have to pay for private therapy to address their children's daily exposure to this kind of environment. There are amazing teachers in Highline School District, and they are being ground down by this behavior on a daily basis as well. Teachers are fleeing literally by the hundreds each year, but the supt. repeatedly insists that this is perfectly normal and that she will continue in her failed policy. I've been to board meetings and listened to the teachers tearfully express what they are dealing with. While they speak, the supt. and her board refuse to make eye contact with the teachers, and do not appear to be listening. Occasionally one of them will make a demeaning comment about the teachers in between the speeches addressing the board; snide observations that are both irrelevant and unfounded. The leaders have no respect for anyone outside of the board.
