As a staff member who has previously taught in several other schools, I can say that you are very fortunate to be able to send your children into the caring and rigorous classrooms at Samantha Smith. Despite challenges out of staff members' control, each educator supports the emotional well-being and academic success of every student. Parent involvement at Samantha Smith is superior and truly factors into the growth of each child. Teachers cannot do their work alone, and Samantha Smith's staff embodies the meaning of teamwork, with classroom teachers, specialists, intervention support, and instructional assistants collaborating to ensure the needs of each unique child is being met. Every school house will have aspects which make someone unhappy, but I honestly believe this is the best place for your child to gain an elementary education.

This school is a great institution. The principal and staff care deeply about each and every student, family and the community. I am personally outaged to the comments left below. Especially to the empty soul that would target the principals health personally. Shame on you. It must be easy to sit behind a keyboard and place blame on the very people who lose sleep and work overtime to care for and educate your children. In my opinion this school is among the best Washington has to offer, both academically and due to the loving, hardworking teachers and staff.

Teachers and the Principal do not address bulley issues and school, instead punishes the victim by retaliating. also, this school is very patient and accommodating with kids with learning disability & behavior issues. The quality of teachers went down significantly do to retirement and family leave past years. Not recommend this school to any average student who are not in quest or hVe learning disability.

I am not impressed with the Lake Washington School District. My daughter went up to fourth grade at Sunny Hills. The district website said she could finish out the fifth grade there, but the mean woman in charge refused to honor their policy. So, she ended up here. They have nothing special for the fifth graders - Sunny Hills offers a fifth grade trip, pioneer day picnic, lots of great activities and parent involvement as well as a fun fair. The only activities Samantha Smith has emailed me about are things to raise money for the school. She doesn't care for the curriculum, or the teacher. I'm not impressed with the curriculum. They don't have to do any reports in front of the class. And the staff at the school in general are not very nice. The crossing guards are rude, the office staff is rather stiff - and I always feel like they are rushing me out. The only nice thing is the nurse. I wish she had never gone here.

My kid had been with Smith's Quest program, and the experience had been great! The main classroom teachers are experienced and skilled in both challenging and encouraging students. They did good job in organizing and adding interesting spins to a rigor academic program...we are happy to see our kid matured over years in taking on more and more challenging school work, and yet still happy to go to school every day. Extra-curriculums are also good...library and music teacher are excellent and loved by kids. The end-of-year music concerts have always been a high-note and memorable moment for many. Very good students and parents involvement too...
