"This schools says it is very anti - bullying but it's not. Supposedly they have a zero tolerance for it. My daughter was there for half of first grade. It started with the teacher separating her and making her sit at the end of a computer table away from all the other kids by herself for the first 6 weeks because she supposedly ""talked too much"". My daughter told me other kids would talk and blame it on her. One day she was sent home with a note saying she had hid under a table and cut her bangs with scissors. My kid is really tall for her age. They sat at really short kindergarten sized tables so I don't see how she was able to hide under a table without anyone noticing. My daughter wouldn't talk about the incident and showed signs that there was something wrong (signs she had shown before when she was bullied at a different school). I confronted the teacher about her getting picked on which she adamantly denied was occurring. We ended up moving and switched her to a different school halfway through the year. It was then my daughter revealed that kids would pick on her in line and that the teacher would make her sit on the ground in the classroom if she talked or something."

McLane Elementary School has a diverse student population that represents a true cross-section of Olympia, WA. Our school has approximately 40% low income student families, 20% children with special needs, and 20% English language learners. We have teachers and staff who truly care about our students and parents who work on a daily basis to support their efforts to succeed. Our Parent Teacher Student Organization works hard to build community and limit fundraising activities to areas that will also support learning and fun. $5,000 would allow us to build a strong environmental program for our Pre-Grade 6 students so that they will enter middle school with skills that are ready for the next level.

My daughter has multiple disabilities and she is accepted and loved at McLane by everyone. It is such a relief to know that everyone is looking out for my daughter, and as a result, she can relax and learn without having to fear other people's negative attitudes.
