My son and daughter went to this school and graduated in 2015 and 2016. A very competitive and very good public school.

As a current student of Newport High school, I have many things to say about the school I go to. All schools have their good and bad qualities, and in many cases, one overpowers the other. In Newport's case, while there are many factors that make Newport great, there are also many that represent the not-so-great side of this hyped up school. While Newport is definitely a school where academic standards are set high so students can succeed in the future, there are many factors that can inhibit a student's ability to want to learn and stay motivated. If you are reading this and are a student who has attended Newport in the 2016-2017 school year, then you definitely know about the racism scandal that happened over social media during this year. What happened has created an increased awareness for acceptance of all students and anti-racism, but at the end of the day, has the school really done a good job at making sure that something like this never happens again? The answer is a big fat No. And not because the school hasn't tried hard enough, but the reason being... wait for it... the students. No matter how hard the district, the administrators, or the teachers try to change the environment of Newport, it will always be a prejudiced school. Students who are minoritites, have learning disabilities, who aren't involved as much in sports and extracurriculars, or who aren't able to speak up in class are automatically considered as lesser and not as great as everyone else. I, myself, have personally experienced this, and let me tell you, it is not a great feeling. Our school supposedly values unity and equality, but how can students feel united and equal in an environment where they feel that they don't belong? At Newport, you don't straight-out see people getting bullied or shoved around. But just because you can't see it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Students, and sometimes teachers too, are constantly acting in prejudiced ways towards others, and sometimes it's not even that noticeable, but the more time you spend at this school, the more evident it gets. All in all, no matter how hard the district and administrators try to make Newport look like the perfect all-rounded school, the hard truth will still be prominent for
