Orange is a good experience! It has an older, more experienced staff that (for the most part) does their absolute best to engage their students and make learning fun! The classes are large, which is mainly because it runs the whole county. As far as students go, they are mostly nice people. They may be a little quiet at first, but once you get to know them they're really friendly. As for the bad kids, I wouldn't worry. The new administration at OCHS doesn't play games and addresses all problems as fast as possible. The buildings are kept clean and the school follows safety procedures to the book. As a student from out of state, I consider orange a great school!

This school is terrible. I was in a class of 60+ students! We had to sit in the auditorium so we could all fit. Not to mention the teacher made everyone use study guides with all the tests' answers on them not for our benefit but because he wanted to make sure he had a "good class avarage" as he put it so that he could run for some position in the county and have a good record. He didn't even care whether you learned the material or not! Just so long as you got a good grade so that you wouldn't mess up his plans! Not to mention he made sure to remind us of that on the regular. It's overcrowded, doesn't have enough teachers, the principle is a complete joke, the food is disgusting and very unhealthy- (we got chicken patties that were still frozen in the center and looked red! Also when you show the cafeteria ladies the food and ask for something else they make you pay for it because " it's not my problem") this school is just awful! The AP program is ok, if you put enough effort into doing things it works out, but again the classes are to large for a 1 teacher to teach. It needs more funding and more staff.

You all complain too much. The AP program is great, and if your child puts in enough effort, he'll be at the top of food chain easily. That's the joy of a not-the-best school. Your child will be recognized as an individual by the teachers because of the small class sizes and long-block schedule. I agree, the school is less-well-off than many others, but that's no excuse to not challenge yourself to learn the material. If you're just going to school to be spoon-fed the material by the teacher, and not putting in any effort to understand the material and its applications in life, then maybe you deserve to be failing. Your child will NOT be prepared for life if they sit idle in class and merely get through the day. They must apply themselves like at any academic institution. Yes, it's difficult because in this modern age, a child must present himself perfectly in-front of his peers or else he might face social repercussions. He must adapt to his surroundings, just like he'll have to do in the real world. I'm glad Orange County High School taught me this valuable skill. I was accepted to Virginia Tech, but I chose to commute to U. Mary Washington. Freshman. Thank you, Orange!

OCHS has also been a nightmare for my family as well. Because my daughter is Special Education on an IEP, we cannot place her in a private school. My child's Special Education Co-ordinator is also a teacher, and has followed my daughter for two years. For some reason, this co-ordinator cannot remember my daughter's name, or that she is not capable of obtaining a standard diploma. The school is so crowded that my daughter could not be placed in a 4th block class, so she sits in the guidance office for two hours after the 1 hour unsupervised lunch. The rating says there are 19 students to a teacher, but this is not correct. There are many more students in a class on average than is being reported. This is the only high school in Orange County, and some kids, like my own, must ride the bus for an hour or more each way to and from school. There is little to no communication from teachers, and it is impossible to make contact during the day with a live person. If I had it to do over, knowing then what I know now, I would have purchased a house in a different county just so that I would not have to deal with OCHS.

This school is overcrowded, underfunded and an absolute nightmare. Staff does not care about the kids, they are quick to fail them and the special education department is a confused mess. I have heard many complaints from staff that there is just not enough faculty to match the kids. The kids are stuck in 2 hour blocks with 4 classes a day, and unsupervised at their lunch time. Communication from the teachers is non-existent.
