I would give this school a 10 out of 10. It prepared me for standardized tests and college level classes.

The help the students get is amazing. My daughter hated school and didn't want to do it. She is now a A and B student and thriving because of teachers and the school.

I have known many people who have gone to this school and they have all had terrible experiences. The work load is huge and if they want to get a remotely good grade they must cut off all free time to do so. I've seen the commercials for this school, one of its main hooks is the flexibility of the classes and how much free time the students have, no. The students that I know that have gone here have done wonderful in there other schools (online or public) then came to Mountain Heights just to fail.

The curriculum is frequently unevenly paced. Some classes will have a very light week one week and a very heavy week the next week. If that is true in the same week in several classes, it can make for a challenging week for any student. The burnout potential was high and our experience was that staying current in school was very difficult and getting a full week ahead was next to impossible. An even bigger problem is the school's school-wide due date for all work, for all students. The current week and the upcoming week are available for students to do work. However, the student who needs a little more time in a "current" week cannot even finish up work over the weekend. (The school changed the deadline from the following Monday morning to the current week's Friday afternoon at 3 P.M. (We were informed by administration that students could have the weekend to work IF they got ahead one week and worked on the upcoming week rather than the current week.)Although the school's bigger selling points are students' ability to set their own schedule and even, to some degree, their pacing, neither claim is true. Our family sought other online options since local public brick-and-mortar high schools actually offered more flexibility and evenness than Mountain Heights.

Open High School is an amazing online school. The teachers work hard to make sure your student stays on track and communicate with you every week. The schedule is also amazing, because you create it. There are deadlines to your assignments, unlike many other online schools that give you until a certain date to turn everything on.
